Addressing systemic inequities is key to the work of the Definity Foundation. Sharing a quote here from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada's 94 Calls to Action that reminds us to recognize that reconciliation is continuous, broad, and needs to be intentional: "Together, Canadians must do more than just talk about reconciliation: we must learn how to practice reconciliation in our everyday lives - within ourselves and our families, and in our communities, governments, places of worship, schools and workplaces. To do so constructively, Canadians must remain committed to the ongoing work of establishing and maintaining respectful relationships." Visit the link to learn more about the 94 Calls to Action:
Executive Director, FPCF - Committed to Indigenous Cultural Vitality
1ySupporting Indigenous-led movements is one way that non-Indigenous allies can take action in solidarity with Indigenous peoples. The average Canadian lives a lifestyle that is rooted in the historic and ongoing injustices perpetrated against Indigenous peoples and Indigenous lands, and Canadians can demonstrate reciprocity and respect by supporting Indigenous cultural reclamation. As culture and language loss are a direct result of colonial oppression, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission called for strong support for the revitalization of Indigenous languages, arts and cultural heritage as a path towards healing and making amends. Contributing to Indigenous cultural vitality initiatives is one way that Canadians can take steps towards reconciling with Indigenous peoples.
