As the world seeks to address climate change, the adoption of technologies and energy sources that reduce our dependence on fossil fuels becomes increasingly important. Clean hydrogen is part of a multi-faceted approach: as an energy source with three times the energy by mass of carbon-based fuels and multiple applications, it is a key driver of energy independence. Dieter Helm - Three energy policies Fascinating commentary on the path to achieving net zero, though somewhat gruff. I may not agree with every point Dieter Helm makes, but I do like the way he cuts through the unnecessary froth and addresses the core of the net zero challenge. Any contrary views? #netzero #climatecrisis #ev

🇺🇲 Carbon Unbound USA 2024 Silver Partner Announcement: 8 Rivers 🇺🇲 8 Rivers is a North Carolina–based clean energy and climate technology company leading the global energy industry towards achieving net zero. Since 2008, 8 Rivers has been pioneering infrastructure-scale technologies that can drastically reduce or remove CO2 emissions. A team of engineering and business experts working together to commercialise technologies and deliver projects across multiple sectors, focusing on oxy-combustion and ultra-low carbon intensity processes. The 8 Rivers technology portfolio includes ultra-low carbon hydrogen production (8RH2), transformative low-carbon power cycles (Allam-Fetvedt Cycle), and hyper-efficient direct air capture (Calcite). With more than $1B in funding raised into its portfolio, it holds more CO2-related patents than any other entity worldwide. Its diversified suite of technologies was developed to help the hardest-to-decarbonise sectors achieve their net-zero goals by prioritising the balancing of economics and science. Mario Guagnelli will speak at #CarbonUnbound USA 2024. Mario is VP of Product Development for Calcite at 8 Rivers and will lead the discussion on the outlook for Lime-Based sorbents to provide global-scale CDR. #Germany Commits €2.8B to #Decarbonization, Highlighting #Hydrogen for Power Transition, with Over €1B Allocated to Five Key Industrial Projects Germany allocates €2.8 billion ($3 billion) to support decarbonization through "climate protection contracts," targeting up to 15 projects to bridge the cost gap between hydrogen and fossil fuels. This strategic funding initiative is structured to provide retroactive payments, ensuring that only the companies that achieve their annual greenhouse gas reduction goals receive financial support. These contracts, spanning 15 years, are adaptable to fluctuations in energy and CO2 prices, serving as a risk management tool for businesses undergoing significant transformations.

"Clean energy trade issues is one of the really huge stories this year." Host David Greely sat down with Tim McDonnell, Climate and Energy Editor at Semafor, to get the scoop on the big stories he’s following in 2024, and his POV on how traditional media could improve their coverage of how companies and governments are moving forward toward #netzero. When Greely asked what McDonnell sees as some of the key themes we need to follow if we want to understand where we are (or aren't!) making progress towards #decarbonization targets, he tells us: "There's a long list. We're at a really interesting part of the #energytransition where some of the important technologies that we've been keeping an eye on — everything from #solar panels and #EVs to #hydrogen electrolyzers, #carbonremoval technology and others — are just starting to scale up. There's a lot of momentum behind, and a sense of inevitability about, a lot of these technologies. It doesn't feel as tenuous as it did when I started writing about #climatechange and the energy transition 12 or 13 years ago. It's much more concrete now — which is good because looming behind all of this is a ticking clock running very quickly out of time to get on track for net zero. I think the big takeaway is that we’re really in this pivotal moment."

INTERNATIONAL CLEAN ENERGY DAY: 26 JANUARY The International Day of Clean Energy on 26 January was declared by the General Assembly (resolution A/77/327) as a call to raise awareness and mobilize action for a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet. Energy lies at the core of a double challenge: leaving no one behind and protecting the Planet. And clean energy is crucial to its solution. In a world grappling with climate change, clean energy plays a vital role in reducing emissions, and can also benefit communities lacking access to reliable power sources. The connection between clean energy, socio-economic development, and environmental sustainability is crucial #cleanenergy #energy #climatechange #emissionsreduction #sustainableenergy #sustainability
