Last but not least, Aung Shan Htay is the third Myanmar student that received the Erasmus MJMD scholarship for this year. He is a structural engineer with over six years of experience in civil engineering, from PC concrete production to structural analysis and design of underground structures in Japan. His curiosity in solid mechanics problems and software development for engineering applications has motivated him to explore an emerging scientific domain, called Computational Mechanics. EU is supporting his advancement in this new area with an EMJMD scholarship for an intensive two-year European Master in Advanced Solid Mechanics where he will be trained in areas of advanced mathematics, computer science, and applied mechanics, and how to combine these disciplines to solve solid mechanics problems. Aung Shan will begin his studies at Université de Lille, and then continue his Masters across several European countries (Belgium, Poland, Greece, Italy). This opportunity will allow him to enrich his academic knowledge and expertise, while giving him the chance to discover different cultures. Are you interested in applying for a scholarship? Since the dawn of universities, their mission has extended far beyond merely facilitating student learning. Universities have profoundly influenced societies by generating and spreading knowledge. Today, the American University of the Middle East (AUM) takes a significant stride toward embodying this pivotal role by embracing the additional identity of a publisher. With the announcement of its scientific peer-reviewed journal, "Advances in Engineering and Multidisciplinary Knowledge," AUM solidifies its commitment to becoming a beacon of knowledge. As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once said, "As for the future, your task is not to foresee it, but to enable it." AUM demonstrates this principle with each endeavor it undertakes. https://lnkd.in/d6mpQPEQ

I had the opportunity to participate in the Week of Education, presenting a poster on Challenge-Based Learning (CBL), an innovative teaching method being utilized at @ECIU University and beyond. 🔍 What did we investigate? We explored the usefulness of the CBL approach for a distance Premaster. 🔧 How did we investigate? We treated it like a challenge, combining the CBL approach with the ADDIE model for course development. 💡 Key Insights: **Engage:** - how to tackle authentic problems and real-world challenges in a premaster. - how to foster self-directed student learning through reflection, documentation, and sharing. - how to involve stakeholders. **Investigate:** - Emphasize constructive alignment, starting with intended outcomes and aligning teaching and assessment accordingly. - Aim for societal impact, highlighting the importance of communication, teamwork, negotiation, and student-centered learning skills. - Use differentiated assessments, each with its own intermediate formative and final summative evaluations. - Implement personal development plans and portfolios with concept mapping. **Act:** - Ensure accessibility for all by offering a distance course. - Delivere core knowledge in a focused, non-integrated manner. - Include mandatory courses in basic statistics, academic skills, and research skills. - Chose climate adaptation as the challenge to integrate, activate, and apply knowledge. - Employe innovative assessment methods. 🌟 Usefulness of CBL: - Amplifies the impact of our program by fostering societal change through real-life applications. - Prepares students for the master’s program by enhancing self-regulation, activating pre-knowledge, and preventing fragmentation of learning. Everything started here a month ago, when I first visited the Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi / Middle East Technical University campus. Walking around the METU grounds, I felt an immediate connection and knew this was where I wanted to start my journey in City and Regional Planning. The decision was clear—this is where I’ll learn to shape the cities of the future. I’m excited to begin this new chapter, eager to dive into my studies, and looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead. #metu #odtu #NewBeginnings #CityPlanning #UrbanPlanning #FutureCities #Sustainability #UrbanDevelopment #UniversityLife

Last weekend, I attended the 2024 ASCE Metropolitan Section Student Symposium! I represented Stony Brook University in the Paper Competition. I wanna give a special thanks to this year's judges, Radhi Majmudar, Kancheepuram N. Gunalan and Robin A. Kemper, and my incredible chapter for the amazing support they have given me. Shout out to Stony Brook University for hosting this event. 🎉 Excited to share my experience as a presenter where I discussed the vital role of ethics in engineering, particularly focusing on the principles outlined in ASCE's Code of Ethics and how we can integrate AI in Civil Engineering. As civil engineers, our responsibility extends beyond technical expertise. We're entrusted with creating safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure while ensuring equitable participation and considering societal needs. However, with the advent of technology like AI, ethical considerations become even more crucial. The potential of AI to revolutionize engineering is undeniable, yet we must carefully evaluate its ethical implications. How do we ensure that AI aligns with our ethical responsibilities, especially concerning safety, equity, and societal well-being? For those interested, I've attached my presentation. I also attached some pictures from different events.📸 #ASCE #EngineeringEthics #AIinEngineering
