Drill and Blast (D&B) tunneling is a construction technique critical for excavating through solid rock and other resilient materials. This method is especially pertinent in geologically challenging conditions, such as hard rock formations and areas with complex geological structures. Drill and Blast tunneling involves a systematic process of boring and explosive demolition that enables the efficient creation of tunnels through otherwise impenetrable geologies. The methodology includes two primary phases: drilling, where holes are meticulously drilled into the rock using advanced machinery tailored to the specific rock's hardness and composition; followed by blasting, where these holes are filled with explosives and detonated in a controlled manner. The blast fractures the rock, facilitating its removal and allowing for the tunnel to progress. The effectiveness of the D&B technique lies in its adaptability to diverse rock types and geological conditions. It is particularly advantageous in hard rock contexts where mechanical excavation methods such as Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) prove inefficient. D&B can be adjusted to address variations in rock type—ranging from granite to quartzite—and is effective under conditions involving high tectonic activity, where fault lines and thrust zones predominate.
Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out. RKC celebrates a major milestone with the successful completion of our tunnel project breakthrough excavation of Package 17 ( 4.16 KM 8-Lane Twin Tube Tunnel part of Delhi - Vadodara- Mumbai Expressway) in a record 15 months—the fastest in the Indian construction industry! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Honorable Shri Nitin Gadkari Sir for acknowledging our work. This recognition inspires us to continue our pursuit of excellence and innovation in every project. Thank you for your unwavering support and trust in RKC. This tunnel not only symbolizes a significant leap in infrastructure but also promises to enhance connectivity, boost economic prosperity in Maharashtra and Gujarat, and contribute to the nation's growth. #Infrastructure #Tunnelling #NHAI #UndergroundEngineering #Delhi -Vadodara-Mumbai #Expressway #Construction

The Pune-Mumbai expressway’s missing link project, aimed at reducing travel time between Mumbai and Pune by at least 6 km, now targets a May 2025 completion. The Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway’s missing link project is divided into two phases: Phase 1 features two tunnels of 1.75 km and 8.92 km, while Phase 2 includes two viaducts of 790m and 650m. According to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), 94% of the tunnelling work in Phase 1 is complete, but the viaduct construction in Phase 2 is proving challenging, with only 74% finished. The Rs 6,695 crore project, designed to bypass the ghat section known for landslides and traffic bottlenecks, has faced delays due to the complex engineering, wind pressures at high elevations, and various clearances. Regular commuters express concerns about ongoing traffic congestion, as the project has already missed several deadlines due to delays in land acquisition, statutory approvals, and the intricate engineering of tunnels and cable-stayed viaducts. Once completed, the project is expected to reduce the 19 km journey from Khopoli to Sinhgad Institute near Lonavala by over 6 km and cut travel time by at least 25 minutes compared to the current ghat section route. This will help decongest the stretch between Adoshi tunnel and Khandala exit, where the expressway merges with NH-4, often leading to severe congestion. #saudaghar #saudagharscoop #realestate #realestatenews #pune #punekars #punenews #punenews #saudagharnews #missinglink #punemumbaiexpressway #khopoli #sinhgad #adoshitunnel #khandala #nh4

The 47-year-old railway overbridge connecting Chinchwad to the old Pune-Mumbai highway will soon be demolished after being declared unsafe for commuters. Following recommendations from the Pune division of the Central Railway, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had restricted heavy vehicles on the bridge for the past 18 months and installed height barriers to reduce load. A structural audit conducted earlier recommended demolishing and replacing the bridge rather than strengthening it. PCMC has appointed a consultant to design the new bridge, which will be sent to railway authorities for approval before initiating the tendering process for demolition and construction. Currently, only light vehicles traveling from the old Pune-Mumbai highway to Chinchwad Gaon use the bridge, and its complete closure depends on further advice from railway authorities. The parallel overbridge constructed years ago will continue to manage one-way traffic movement during the process. Meanwhile, PCMC has also nearly completed the strengthening of the 40-year-old Indira Gandhi railway overbridge in Pimpri, a project delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, with only minor work on two wings of the structure remaining. #saudaghar #saudagharscoop #realestate #realestatenews #pune #punekars #punenews #punenews #saudagharnews #bridge #mumbaihighway #pcmc #centralrailway #heavyvehicles #demolishing #chinchwadgaon #gandhirailway #pandemic
