We just fired someone in an office manager / admin role that we desperately needed, that we hired 4 weeks ago. Classic case of misaligned expectations. Working with fast-growing clinics delivering mental health or psychiatric services, a consistent challenge I hear is “we hired someone we thought was great for these reasons, but they didn’t work out.” Individuals in these roles fell into two camps: 1) They had decades working in healthcare settings, and couldn’t adapt a new operating model, or 2) They lacked the healthcare expertise to get a quick grasp on how to navigate the nuances of offering these new services. When thinking about hiring for these roles, it’s important to recognize that you’re not just hiring someone to manage the front desk or fight the battles with insurance companies. In reality these roles end up being a mix of: sales, customer service, operations, patient education, finance, and all-around team player. If you’re a clinic owner, do you prioritize the industry veteran who might be less flexible or the fresh perspective who might lack healthcare perspective on day one? How have others thought about hiring strategies or trade offs in filling these roles?

(Let's pretend you asked) -I am a mother first to my two toddlers -I am a wife -I was involved in the NFL for a blip of time ;) - I have been in staffing for over 13 years and MAJORITY of that time was spent in the technology and sales lane.
