IT ALL STARTED WITH AN IDEA… Five years ago, Sheryl O'Loughlin, Melissa Facchina, Kara Cissell-Roell, and Cassie Burr recognized a simple yet significant problem: they knew dozens of talented women and CEOs who needed their expertise, but neither group seemed to find one another. That’s when the Women On Boards Project was born, with a mission to bridge that gap and bring more diversity to boardrooms. Launched as a non-profit in February 2020, we partnered with industry leaders like VMG Partners, L Catterton, Siddhi Capital, and others to diversify the boards of 20 portfolio brands. Our partners understood that today's companies need directors with specific skill sets to grow key functions and build stakeholder value—demonstrating that diversity works for everyone. What began as a 20-company initiative has now expanded to over 50+ companies, a network of 5,000+ women, and 10 investor sponsors. And the best part? We’re just getting started. Thank you to all our partners, supporters, and an incredible network of members who have made these five years possible. Its great to see everyone praising women today, but I wonder if the better idea would be for us all to post: 'Ways that I am helping women lead'? Let me tell you: “Leading whilst Female” is TOUGH. Every Day. Speaking as a woman trying to lead a new energy transition organization, and who has to fight daily to be seen and heard by the funders I need to raise money from, I am really open to hearing about organizations that support female leaders in trying to smash the glass ceiling, organizations that can help with finding funders & building business plans, or who want to preference women-led organizations. I want to know how you are helping women into leadership roles. Or just to be asked the question, preferably by one of any of the myriad male leaders, "What could I be doing to help you succeed?"

One of the best ways to give back is to serve as a committee member or assume a board position with non-profit organizations whose work you support. I have found this to be an unbelievably fulfilling experience that has broadened my horizons and introduced me to some outstanding individuals in the community.
