#Technology - Release Mechanisms One of the most frequently asked questions in introductory meetings with customers is: How do I place the part and how precise is the placement? Here are three ways to release the parts once they are put in their right place: ➡ Sliding: This technique works best, when the parts are placed on a sticky surface such as gel paks or something similar, which has a higher adhesion than the gripper. Simply move the robot arm sideways, so that the gripper’s pillars bend and the adhesion is reduced. 🔃 Rotating: Similar to sliding the gripper off, rotating works very well on adhesive surfaces. The gripper simply needs to be rotated to release the adhesion and can then be removed. Rotation is also a good technique when placing an object in a cavity, where it is held in place. ⬇ Buckling: This technique is the most precise, especially when placing objects on non-adhesive surfaces. For this method, the robot arm has to move further into Z axis, so the pillars start to bend and therefore the adhesion decreases. With a faster upwards movement to make sure that the adhesion does not increase again, the gripper can be removed from the object.
