"No one said being a leader was easy. It requires high levels of confidence, extensive experience with communicating what you are asking others to do, a relentless focus on improvement, and most of all it entails listening to oneself as well as to others, communicating your beliefs, passions and ideas, and bringing others along with you on a worthwhile set of actions, all deeply constructed within a climate and culture worth defending. This book on unlocking deeper collaboration has the potential to drive meaningful results in leadership, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, transparent values, and effective communication in creating a culture worth defending." - John Hattie, Foreword for Leading with Intention Unlock deeper collaboration: https://ow.ly/nxn650RSJNn Instructional Leadership Collective #schoolleaders #educationalleadership #k12education

What can leaders learn from the best educators about the power of challenging goals + empathy? For many leaders, the concepts of accountability for results and demonstrating empathy are often seen as mutually exclusive, when in fact they are synergistic and actually enable breakthrough performance. Great teachers and coaches use this powerful combo to engage their students to achieve more. This article provides suggestions for leaders to try, as well as reviewing some of the science behind empathy and performance. Let me know: What did you learn about leadership from the teacher or coach who challenged you to achieve more than you thought was possible? #PersonalDevelopment #HR #Leadership #ScienceForWork #coaching #leadership #leadershipdevelopment P.S. Special thanks to two great teachers, my mom and Mrs. Traylor, who challenged me and taught me a great deal about leadership. Armstrong Performance Consulting provides coaching, speaking and consulting services to help leaders create bold personal and business transformations that achieve breakthrough performance.

The last couple of days have been rewarding as I collaborated with a group of dedicated teachers and leaders. Together, we delved into deep discussions on elevating our teaching practices to enhance student outcomes. During our conversations, a wise leader emphasized the importance of studying successful teachers who have embraced new teaching methods, like structured literacy. The team identified key characteristics that are essential for success in this shift: - A willingness to let go of the past - A thirst for continuous learning - A devotion to a greater cause - Diligent planning and preparation for new learning opportunities With 25 years of teaching experience, this educator exemplifies dedication, commitment, and a passion for learning. Implementing structured literacy demands a significant journey, from initial adoption to long-term sustainability with consistency across classrooms. It's a complex task that requires collaboration, time, and most importantly, a spirit of openness, teamwork, and effective leadership. The road may be challenging, but the rewards for all involved are immeasurable. #continuouslearning #strategicleadership

Unpopular opinion: If you truly want to impact students lives & set them up to be successful, stop focusing directly on them & pour deeply into the adults who educate them. If you truly want to ensure each student's success, focus on the adults they interact with daily. By empowering and developing educators and leaders, we create an environment where their growth positively impacts every student. The greatest catalyst for growth and sustainable change occurs when we invest in adults. They are the facilitators and space setters. When they are directly impacted, the benefits naturally flow to the students. If you agree that we need to focus on adult learning, let me know! #Education #Leadership #StudentSuccess #Empowerment #Growth #ProfessionalDevelopment
