It's been a busy time, and an exciting one, for our client Athletes.org (AO), a fast-growing players association for college athletes. Last month, University of Notre Dame invited AO to campus, where AO’s leadership talked with current ND athletes across several sports over a two-day window. They discussed the implications of the House v. NCAA settlement proposal and other issues related to the historic labor movement in college sports. Then AO was mentioned in the House settlement proposal itself. The plaintiffs attorneys wrote: "To assist in obtaining ongoing information from college athletes during the Injunctive Settlement Term...Class Counsel will call upon established college player advocacy organizations to provide input on the views of class members, including from Athletes.Org led by Jim Cavale...” On Friday, Jim Cavale appeared on SiriusXM to talk with Rick Neuheisel and Chris Childers about the House settlement, revenue sharing more broadly, AO’s meetings with Notre Dame players, and more. The insightful interview begins at the 28:00 mark in the link below. #sportsbiz #sports #sportsindustry #sportsbusiness #media #news #journalism #NIL #labor #money #finance #economics #marketing #sportsmarketing #consulting #communications #linkedinsports #strategiccommunications #mediarelations #branding #collegesanduniversities #socialimpact #linkedin https://lnkd.in/g8N-d9B3

2024 has been a great year, with the end of the "Amateur era" of the NCAA as one of the top issues in Sports Law. Here I give you a short insight on the topic.
In our latest blog, “2024: The NCAA Amateur Model Comes to an End,” we explore the pivotal legal battles and settlements, such as the Alston case and the House Settlement, that reshaped the NCAA’s structure. This transformation ensures that athletes, the very heart of these billion-dollar competitions, are finally compensated fairly for their contributions. A special thanks to Miquel Aznar Company for his compelling analysis and for highlighting how these changes not only redefine college sports but also address decades of injustice. We’re thrilled to share this insightful piece with you. Check it out and join the conversation on the future of NCAA athletics! 🔗 Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/dKBX9Jqz

🚨Game-Changer in College Sports: House v. NCAA Settlement Moves Forward🚨 A federal judge has preliminarily approved the groundbreaking House v. NCAA settlement, which could reshape the future of college athletics. If finalized, it will: (1) Award $2.75 billion in back-pay to athletes, (2) Allocate $20B+ in revenue sharing to future athletes (3) Establish new scholarship and roster rules. This landmark decision marks a pivotal moment for athletes’ rights and NIL, but many questions remain, especially around Title IX enforcement. The settlement is expected to take full effect by the 2025-26 academic year. #NIL #CollegeSports #HousevNCAA #AthleteRights #SportsLaw — I’m Tyler Erickson, and this is my first substantive LinkedIn post. P.S. I hope Vanderbilt gets extra NIL money for beating Alabama.
