I can’t keep up. With the number of women who have told us this below. And it happened again today. I can’t keep up with the number of successful women, retired women, lawyers, bankers, students, young professionals, financial professionals, empowered women. Independent, Highly educated. But NEVER educated on early signs of predators in their home. In their dating lives. In their dorms. In their choices for a lifelong mate. Growing up, we were educated about the dangers of predators down dark alleys. Strangers just waiting for us. But not predators down the hallway in our own home, or in our school, or on our dates, or in our office, or at family gatherings. Megan’s Foundation grantmaking is totally focused on early intervention of relationship violence so that schools & nonprofits can provide age appropriate & evidence based critical healthy relationships education. To PREVENT the trauma, anxiety, depression & PTSD victims endure both during and after the predators are gone. We advocate & educate in order to eliminate these words “ if only I had this information when I was young & naive’.” #domesticviolenceprevention #relationshipviolenceprevention #ipvprevention #primaryprevention #communitycolleges #highereducation #secondaryeducation #grantmaking #leadership #institutionalleadership #datingviolenceprevention #healthyrelationships

📢 Empowering Communities for School Choice! 🎓🏫 In a world where chance should never determine a child's education, it's time to take action! Many feel powerless, but we must rise up and fight for more school choice. When the narrative of school closures emerges, let's not fall for the hustle. The way they get us is telling us that something is being taken from us and because we've had so much taken from us we go straight into defensive mode. #EducationMatters #SchoolChoice #EmpoweringCommunities

💔 Two 12-year-olds sentenced for murder. 😔 A 19-year-old lost his life. 👀 How did we get here? This tragedy in my city of #Wolverhampton has been weighing heavily on my mind. Shawn, just 19, was waiting with friends when his life was taken - only months after arriving from abroad. As a father, with a 13 yr old young son, I can’t imagine the pain his family is going through. And as an educator, I feel an urgency to act. We need to do more, be more intentional, and fight harder to guide our youth away from paths of violence. How did these boys - just 12 years old - get here? In my view, key factors include: • Lack of Positive Role Models: Without guidance, youth are left to navigate life on their own, often falling into negative influences. • Emotional Disconnect: These young boys were struggling, likely feeling isolated and unable to manage their emotions. • Exposure to Violence: Social media platforms like Snapchat and TikTok are normalizing violence, making harmful actions seem easy or justified. What Can We Do as Educators? → Build Emotional Intelligence: Incorporate social-emotional learning to teach empathy, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation. → Create Safe Spaces: Schools should be sanctuaries where students feel supported, and community spaces - like youth zones or recording studios - can be transformative. → Early Interventions: Identify and support at-risk youth through counselling, mentoring, and after-school programs. → Strengthen Community Ties: Partner with local organisations to offer positive outlets like sports, arts, and music. → Educate About Consequences: Use real-life stories, like Shawn’s, to teach about the severe impacts of violence. → Promote Positive Peer Influence: Foster a culture of kindness and respect to create a more supportive environment. This is a Shared Responsibility. Preventing youth violence is not just on schools - it’s on all of us. We must prioritise prevention, education, and early intervention over punishment. Shawn’s tragic death is a wake-up call.... We have the power to change the narrative, one lesson, one conversation, one connection at a time. 👉 Let’s come together to build a brighter future for our youth. Expert in Visualization, Vision Therapy, and Turning Dreams into Reality. Speaker & Author of multi-book awards & bestselling See It. Say It. Do It!
The school is considered as one of the pillars of our society. That is hardly disputable, right? But have we really looked into our current educational system? Perhaps we will find, not just cracks, but deep fractures, and maybe we should be paying attention and talking about them more than ever. Wendy Rosen, educator, author and speaker, returns as a guest on Vision Beyond Sight to talk about how the pandemic exposed deep fractures that have long been destabilizing one of the most essential bricks in the foundation of society - school. Imbalances and injustices have compromised teachers, children, families, and communities. Schools have become inhumane, unsafe spaces that are putting pressure to children against their developmental readiness, all the while being threatened by outside intruders. Wendy spoke about her book School, The Seedbed of Society, and the need to get out of the auto-pilot trajectory of our current educational system by looking at our children as a whole person and our teachers as people, have conversations going and see the bigger picture of the school’s role in defining what we need to be human. Listen to the full show here: https://lnkd.in/gRzxtcWF Read more about the episode here: https://lnkd.in/gxkQHXN9 “Schools are looked at places as academic institutions which of course they are, but we have been leaving out the rest of the child in that for too long. We have to look at the child as a whole person. This is nothing new; we have been talking about this for years – social and emotional learning and all these other aspects of what it means to be a person – and understand that we are not just teaching kids information that they are then needing to output on a test to show that they’re learning, given a certain score and therefore schools get what they need in order to continue that cycle. Students are people. Teachers are people. They are so much more than a test score and the knowledge that they come away with at the end of the school day.” – Wendy Rosen #schoolsystem #childrenseducation #childrenslearning #remotelearning #postpandemic #VisionBeyondSight

When I was thinking about Hairiette of Harlem, my thought was that I could create a brand for just for kids--adults were frustrating. I did a hard pivot on that idea while I was at school and realized there would be no way to reach a child without parent/caregiver engagement. In fact, family engagement may well be the heart of child learning (the 74million.com shared a great article called 'The Biggest Blind Spot in Education: Parents’ Role in Their Children’s Learning). It got me thinking: how can teachers and parents work together as PARTNERS in the education of a child? Here are three solutions to consider! 1. Teachers might consider doing home visits—if parents are reluctant, then maybe coffee at a location that works for both parties? 2. Text messaging is likely the quickest, easiest way for parents and teachers to stay connected. Maybe it’s as simple as a daily inspirational message! Also, parents tend to get frustrated when the only time they hear from their child’s school is when something goes wrong. Should something happen in school, at least there’s a prior relationship in place between the parent and the teacher. 3. Collaborate with students to get their input in any direction the school is consider taking. For example, why not have the students create a committee that helps the staff, school and administrators design an ideal parent/caregiver/teacher day? Are you a teacher? What are some of the things you/your school is doing to help foster a healthy relationship with parent/caregivers? https://lnkd.in/eUU6JhcM

There are numerous examples of excellent #schoolleaders positively transforming what goes on inside the school fence without it impacting on the school’s #reputation in the #community. The sad thing about this is that many prospective parents will be more influenced by the reputation of the school in the community than by what the school has to offer their children. . Read our blog below to find out why REPUTATION always wins. . https://lnkd.in/gzGxScRu
