I am thrilled to announce the publication of my first PhD paper in the Journal of Accident Analysis and Prevention! 🎉 In this study, we compared factors affecting the safety of pedestrians accessing bus stops across countries with different income levels. While travelling by bus is relatively safe, our findings highlight the dangers pedestrians face when walking to and waiting at bus stops, such as areas lacking essential infrastructure like footpaths, crossings, and adequate lighting, especially in low-and-middle-income countries. Our research emphasises the importance of evaluating both perceived safety (how people feel about accessing bus stops) and objective safety (how the physical characteristics of bus stops influence pedestrian safety). This article is the first study of my PhD research at CARRS-Q. A heartfelt thank you to my incredible supervisors, Narelle Haworth and Natalie Watson-Brown, for their unwavering support in making this research possible.
