Salipro Biotech and Top10 Japanese Pharma Company Expand Multi-Target Research Collaboration Salipro Biotech AB today announced the expansion of its multi-target research collaboration with a Top10 Japanese pharmaceutical company. Building on our successful research program, this extended agreement includes additional drug targets and projects, leveraging our proprietary Salipro® platform technology. The expanded collaboration will focus on a range of challenging membrane protein drug targets, such as GPCRs, ion channels and transporters. Salipro Biotech’s expertise in membrane protein stabilisation will be instrumental in advancing drug discovery programs for these targets. Kyowa Kirin to Invest $530 Million in New Biologics Manufacturing Facility in North Carolina Kyowa Kirin’s board of directors has approved plans to invest up to $530 million to build a new, state-of-the-art biologics manufacturing facility in Sanford, North Carolina. The 171,700-square-foot, two-reactor facility will accelerate the company’s development and production of biologic therapies for patients with rare and serious diseases. Construction of the facility is expected to begin in the second half of 2024 and become fully operational in 2027. The 75-acre campus at Helix Innovation Park at The Brickyard will allow for future expansion, should the company’s portfolio necessitate greater capacity as its pipeline programs advance. Kyowa Kirin’s investment of up to $530 million will be supported by performance-based state and local incentives to Kyowa Kirin of $10 million over 12 years. https://lnkd.in/gKq4XCim #aspenalert #biotech #bioprocess

The Chinese pharmaceutical and bio industry has seen a remarkable surge in technology exports and significant FDA approvals. According to MyBioCapital, a Chinese international investment advisory firm, Chinese pharmaceutical and bio companies' technology exports last year totaled 80 cases, nearly doubling from 41 cases in 2021, reaching a record high. This growth underscores China's increasing influence and competitiveness in the global bio market. In 2022, Merck (MSD) made a substantial investment of $9.475 billion (approximately 13 trillion 217 billion won) to introduce Kelun's ADC technology. This was followed by Johnson & Johnson (J&J) developing "Carvykti," a chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy for multiple myeloma, using technology acquired from China's Legend Biotech. The drug, approved by the FDA in 2022, is considered the most effective and commercially valuable among existing CAR-T therapies. https://lnkd.in/dDmpYk3V
