Balancing the Scales: Addressing Homelessness in Our Community We recently had a thought-provoking conversation with a Local Authority about the challenges they're facing in addressing homelessness in their community. It's a tough balancing act - they must weigh the needs of residents against the limitations of their budget and resources. As we've seen in the course of our work, our Local Authorities are dedicated to tackling the root causes of homelessness and providing vital support services to those affected. But they know they can't do it alone. The importance of partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups has never been more clear. By collaborating and leveraging our collective strengths, we can create a more supportive and effective network for those in need. Together, we can make a significant difference. Let's work together to make a difference! #Homelessness #LocalAuthority #Collaboration #CommunitySupport #denburylegal

Each year Homelessness Australia set a theme for Homelessness Week and this year it is ** Homelessness Action Now ** In the lead up to finalising our events program for Homelessness Week 2024, we have been considering what this theme could mean and how we can collectively and collaboratively create action. We also encourage our sector peers and allies to consider the same moving forward. Also, if you are a homelessness service provider in Western Australia and you are considering applying for funding for a Homelessness Week event, project or initiative through our Grant Program this year, keep this years theme in mind when defining your concept and vision for what you wish to host or collaborate with others to host. It's an important question to consider. #HomelessnessWeek #HomelessnessWeek2024 #HomelessnessWeekWA #HomelessnessWeekFunding #HomelessnessWeekGrantProgram

At the annual State of Homelessness Address, we announced our third consecutive year of reductions in homelessness in Dallas and Collin counties, including the lowest total number of people experiencing homelessness in nearly a decade. 👏 According to the 2024 Point-in-Time count, a total of 3,718 individuals are experiencing homelessness on any given night in Dallas and Collin counties. That equates to a 19% reduction in overall homelessness and a 24% reduction in unsheltered homelessness since 2021. The strategic moves we’ve made as a community are showing results! But we still have work to do. Our community must continue investing in these effective solutions that will house more neighbors experiencing homelessness with the wraparound support they need to rebuild their lives. Homelessness Week: Urgent Call for Change! Queensland is seeing a rise in families needing short-term emergency accommodation due to the shortage of affordable housing. This is a stark reminder of the need for action now. For families with young children, staying in a hotel or motel long-term presents challenges like: • Disrupted routines • Limited space • Lack of familiarity • Privacy issues • Restricted access to resources. The emotional impact on both parents and children can be significant. Community services play a crucial role in easing these transitions and providing stability. Let's come together to support those in need. #HomelessnessWeek #Homesforkids #SupportFamilies #AffordableHousing

One of the elements of our Theory of Change is doing what it takes. For us that means addressing immediate needs and tailoring support to suit each person. In the current housing market that’s challenging, and our Housing and Homelessness team are doing a great job. The proportion of people who were in unstable, unsafe or unaffordable housing when they engaged our services continues to grow. Our specialist homelessness services continue to achieve strong outcomes in securing and sustaining housing, but this work is taking much longer and is more complex. Whether it’s supporting people to keep their tenancy, ringing around to find accommodation, or pulling on the gum boots and going out to wherever there are people in need, YFS workers are doing what it takes. The theme for Homelessness Week 2024 is “Homelessness Action Now”. We all need to work together to take action and do what it takes to end homelessness. #HW2024 #HomelessnessWeek2024

As a community, it's our responsibility to address the issue of homelessness in Britain. In order to make a real impact, we must provide both immediate and long-term solutions that address the root causes of homelessness. This is a crisis that requires more than just acknowledgement; it requires empathy, action, and a steadfast commitment to change. We need to make this a priority. #HowarthHousing #emergencyaccommodation #temporaryaccommodation #endhomelessness #homelessness
