Embracing Trans Visibility: Fostering Inclusion and Support 🏳️🌈 Today is Trans Day of Visibility, a day to celebrate trans, gender diverse and non-binary people, share their stories, raise awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, and highlight the accomplishments of their wonderfully diverse communities. While visibility is important, it's just one piece of the puzzle. Access, inclusion, and opportunities for participation are equally vital. Many in the gender-diverse community still struggle with a lack of representation, role models, and supportive communities, which can lead to feelings of isolation. WiTWA strives to build an inclusive and diverse community, reflecting the lived experiences of our members. We use the words women and men, but it is important to us that you know our definition of women includes all women. Transgender people’s stories are those of ongoing perseverance in the face of adversity. In fact, it was only in 2017 that federal law began explicitly prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender identity and gender expression. Canada’s transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people contribute to the country’s rich diversity. On this International Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate all the advocates, survivors, and community members who fought—and continue to fight—for more equal and inclusive rights in Canada.
