Health, Safety & Environment Leadership for high-risk businesses | Experienced in Construction, Electrical Utilities, Roofing and Infrastructure
Error-enforcing (or error-producing) risk factors… I’ve been asked to describe these several times in my career and I always find the text book definitions don’t help much…but examples are almost immediately clear. You’ll start to see examples all the time after understanding the concept. Often (as in the linked example), these are masked as well-intentioned and often seen as a way to provide training for something that has a significant risk to it by way of an analogue that mimics the task minus the risk….sounds great right? The problem is that if you learn how to perform a task (operate a lathe for example) that allows you work in a way that would have a machinist scream at you ( e.g. put your hands on the rotating mass )…what happens when you come across the real thing? Especially in an emergency situation that requires you to react instinctively? It’s just a bad idea - again, a well meaning one - but still bad. https://lnkd.in/eFwzx6iW
