𝗪𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗨𝗽 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 Today, like never before, we need leaders at all levels. Leadership is a way of acting--perhaps the highest level of being a human being. There are so many facets of leadership. Being seen by others as a leader is an honor and privilege. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩? 𝐈𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤: It is a humbleness when others are brash. It is being quiet when everyone is shouting. It is a calm when everything is going wrong. It is giving when others are taking. It is listening when others are talking. It is caring when others are suffering. It is seeing the new in the old. It is seeing the possibility in the problem. It is going cross X current. It is not taking the shortcut. It is breaking policies for people. It is loving when others are hating. It is crying when others are hurting. I am reminded of a story from Max DePree's book 𝐿𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝 𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑛 𝐴𝑟𝑡. In it, Max DePree, CEO of the furniture manufacturer Herman-Miller, is leaving a restaurant with his 90-year-old mother. Max is walking faster than his mother, who has a walker. His mother said, "I cannot walk faster. But you can walk slower." Instead of expecting others to go at our speed, we should go a little slower so others can catch up. Step up and learn leadership principles, not to be "seen" as a leader but to become a better human being. And develop leaders at all levels. A toxic boss or person at work won't bully their weakest employee or colleague. They'll go after their strongest. Here’s why: 1. Your success makes them feel insecure. 2. You’re confident, independent and self-sufficient, and you don’t need their approval, which really gets under their skin. 3. By targeting someone respected, they try to make themselves look better. 4. They get a rush from making you feel weak. 5. They go after strong people to deflect from their own problems. 6. They want you to stop questioning them and fall in line. My advice? Stay true to yourself, focus on your work and don’t let their behaviour get to you. But if they’re making your job unbearable, it might be time to think about your exit strategy. ♻ Repost this. This video got me a bit choked up. Notice who is saving all of these dogs from the destruction of the hurricane. It's not "elected officials" or FEMA. It's random strangers. Our neighbors.
