Sunday April 21, 2024 7 am PT, 9 am CT, 10 am ET #OmaliTaughtMe Sunday Study: What is the African People's Socialist Party Part 1 - Build and Cons… The African People's Socialist Party (APSP) was formed on African Liberation Day in May of 1972 with the merging of three political organizations throughout the state of Florida: the Junta of Militant Organizations (JOMO) out of St. Petersburg, Black Rights Fighters led by Lawrence Mann out of Fort Myers, and the Gainesville Black Study Group led by Katura Carey. The APSP was founded with the stated mission to "complete the Black Revolution of the 1960s" which had been defeated militarily through U.S. colonial counterinsurgency. This was one of the most important developments in the history of the African liberation struggle, as African people were now armed with its own revolutionary political party guided by revolutionary theory. This week, the #OmaliTaughtMe Sunday Study initiates a series discussing the significance of the founding of the Party, the need for a Party, the principles that inform and guide our strategy towards liberation and the basis for the colonial counterinsurgency efforts we've witnessed historically and at present. We read from the document, "Build and Consolidate the APSP" presented by Chairman Omali Yeshitela in 1986. Find it here: https://lnkd.in/e2aSuTUs... APSPUhuru.org The Burning Spear TV

Imagine reading a long, intense novel. The main conflict is resolved towards the end, but you don’t reach the final chapter until much later. This last chapter contains crucial information that ties everything together, providing closure and a deeper understanding of the story. Without reading this chapter, you can't fully grasp the significance of the resolution. Similarly, while the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865, that the last enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom. Juneteenth represents that final chapter—when the promise of emancipation truly reached all enslaved African Americans, providing closure and a fuller realization of freedom. Just as the final chapter of a book is essential for complete understanding, Juneteenth is crucial for acknowledging the true end of slavery in the United States. Watch the video and pass it along to someone who wants to be and do better. https://lnkd.in/eRBvTm3E

What is Juneteenth, and why is it important? - Karlos K. Hill and Soraya Field Fiorio Today, we honor Juneteenth, a pivotal day in American history. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, marking a monumental step toward freedom for African Americans. This day, now known as Juneteenth, commemorates when the last enslaved people in the United States were informed of their liberation over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth is not just a celebration of emancipation but a powerful reminder of the African American community's resilience, strength, and enduring spirit. It's a day to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of those who fought for freedom and those who continue to fight for equality and justice. Juneteenth is a day of reflection, education, and celebration. Let's honor this historic day by committing to ongoing efforts toward equality and justice for all. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Equality #BlackHistory #DiversityAndInclusion #SocialJustice #CommunityEmpowerment https://lnkd.in/gTbNNVHV

#GlobalResponsibility for #GlobalJustice? 🌍 ⚖ A Personal Reflective Pause... Today's hearing in #thehague touches the hearts of many regarding the tragic situation in #Gaza and reminds me, regardless of personal or political alignment on the situation, of the immense need for a world where justice knows no borders and accountability is a global doctrine. As a South African who lived through and benefitted from the era of #apartheid, this event resonates deeply with me. In my role, I am constantly aware of the essential and urgent need for #globalresponsibility. The absence of an entry in the "Encyclopedia of Global Justice" stands out starkly. This isn't merely an oversight in academia; it's indicative of our broader mission to embed the ethos of global responsibility into the fabric of societal norms. It requires me and you (the "I"), our organisations and collectives (the "We") and the systems (human and natural) that constitute our planet ("All of Us"). To my fellow leaders, educators, and our institutions: let’s expand our discourse and embed the tenets of Fairness, Freedom, Honesty, Humanity, Responsibility, Solidarity, Tolerance and Transparency into our daily practices. Let us reflect on our role in shaping a future where such ideals are not just entries in an encyclopedia but the foundations of our actions and decisions.
