Automated counting of SF9 insect cells 🐛 Insect cells such as the SF9 cell line isolated from Spodoptera frugiperda are commonly used in the process of recombinant protein production using baculovirus. This method of protein production requires accurate knowledge of SF9 cell counts and viability to qualify successful transfection and healthy cells producing protein. In this technical note, DeNovix scientists demonstrate how the CellDrop Automated Cell Counter accurately measures SF9 cells. Our application team tested two different viability dyes (Trypan Blue and AO/PI), and the CellDrop provided rapid and accurate measurements with both.
