Who says you can’t enjoy your job? Not me! You can’t be too serious all day long. It’s important to have a sense of humor and create a positive environment for your patients. Entering the dental health industry with a background of an entrepreneurial mindset, it is important to prioritize the connection with patients/clients and focus on their needs rather than your own. As dental assistants, we sometimes get caught up in tasks and forget to engage in meaningful conversations with those we serve. Recognizing this tendency is the first step in breaking the habit. I have made a conscious effort to shift my focus from my own challenges to the concerns of the patient/client in front of me, bringing my best self to work every day. Having started in the industry in 2014 after transitioning from a career in Business Administration to becoming a Registered Dental Assistant, I am often asked why I did not pursue a career as a dentist. My priority was to prioritize time with my children over further education, and I am committed to providing emotional support and guidance to those I serve. With experience in both general and specialty dental practices, I am eager to continue expanding my knowledge and skills in this field. By prioritizing patient care, we can elevate our profession and provide the highest level of service possible. While it’s flattering to be mistaken for a dentist, I prefer to leave the diagnoses and discussions to them. My role is to support both the patients and the dentist in providing care. To those who are reading my post, I ask: “What is your motivation for your current occupation?” “Do you feel passionate about where you are in your career?” “In what ways are you making a meaningful contribution to your professional development?” #dentalassistant #dentalassisting #rda #rdapproved #rdas #rdalife #dentalassistantlife #careerdevelopment #growth #skills #expertise #dental #dentalteam #dentalcourses
