After nearly two decades of judging the #privatedentistryawards I’d like to share some invaluable insights that I believe can significantly enhance the quality of your submissions: 1️⃣ Alignment with the criteria is paramount. Avoid guessing what judges want; focus solely on the outlined criteria. Misinterpreting or assuming can lead off-course. Directly addressing each requirement shows your commitment to precision and increases your submission’s relevance and impact. 2️⃣ Support your submissions with concrete evidence—be it through data, visuals, or narratives. Merely stating your accomplishments isn’t enough. Back them up with tangible evidence. This could be through patient testimonials, before-and-after visuals, statistical data showcasing improvement or success rates, or detailed narratives that bring your achievements to life. Such evidence makes your claims credible and compelling. 3️⃣ Highlight your engagement with and contributions to your community. Show how your practice extends beyond its walls by actively contributing to the well-being of your community. This can involve charitable events, free dental camps, educational workshops, or any initiatives that improve public health. Demonstrating this aspect portrays your practice as a valuable community pillar. 4️⃣ Ensure clarity and focus in your presentation to facilitate the judges' evaluation. Ideally, we would like to sell it to a local manufacturer based in North America, who would be responsible for manufacturing and distributing the EasyErgoLift system (with its high load capacity), as well as registering it with the FDA. It’s been four months since I transitioned from academia and public healthcare to private practice, and the experience has been both rewarding and challenging. Here are some reflections on this journey so far. 1. Building Patient Trust One of the most significant differences in private practice is building your patient base from scratch. In the public sector, patients were often referred by the system. Here, I’ve had to focus on establishing trust with new patients, many of whom are exploring options for the first time. Clear communication, compassion, and follow-up care have become essential in this process. 2. Managing the Business Side Running a practice involves more than just treating patients. There’s the administrative aspect of running a business—managing staff, handling finances, and ensuring everything operates smoothly. Balancing the time spent in the clinic and addressing the business side has been a learning curve, but each week gets a little easier. 3. Freedom in Patient Care The freedom to make decisions based solely on what’s best for the patient, without the constraints of a larger system, is empowering. This autonomy allows for a more personalized approach to each patient’s care, and I’ve found that extremely fulfilling. 4. The Joy of Positive Outcomes There’s a unique joy that comes from seeing patients’ lives improve after surgery or treatment. Whether it’s someone who can see clearly for the first time in years after cataract surgery or a retinal patient whose vision has stabilized, these moments remind me why I chose this profession. The past four months have been a blend of hard work, growth, and a renewed passion for patient care. Though the challenges are real, the rewards far outweigh them. Looking forward to seeing how the practice evolves in the coming months
