One of my favorite sessions at the #LMA24 conference this year was the #DEI session that sparked such a monumental mindset shift for me.
It posed the question: What should allyship look like for those of us who are committed to creating a more inclusive legal industry for all?
Those of us in positions of authority, leadership, and power have a new mandate ahead of us...
It's not just to break down barriers and hand out ladders extended to the next echelons of the ranks; it is also to grab a shovel and help dig alongside others.
It's not just sage advice. It's not just pats on the back. It's not just offers to help with no specificity.
➡ It's wielding our rank and influence to suggest opportunities that may never have been realized with specificity and action.
➡ It's using our influence to promote new ways to solve old problems and embrace change with those who are resistant to trying something new.
➡ It's fostering relationship building with the right connections - making introductions and forging bonds that support those who need it most.
This is what real allyship looks like.
I loved this analogy and felt it was so fitting. It was one of the most impactful takeaways from the LMA Conference.
It has changed my viewpoint—my perspective—in a way that has made me see my mandate in a new light and with a renewed sense of action.
I'd love to know your favorite takeaway from the conference and how you're looking to potentially implement it. Share below. ⬇
Let's continue the conversation on allyship in law firms that was had at the LMA annual conference, where Gia Altreche and Sona Spencer emphasized the need for active allyship.
We must stop being passive bystanders and become co-conspirators supporting our communities and colleagues. 👥
At #ByAries, we are passionate about DEI in the legal industry because we know that now is the time to work together for the common good.
