Great Unlocking Potential event yesterday morning with keynote speaker Blaire Palmer talking about how to build & grow winning teams. 💡 These events are great for re-affirming existing understandings and also gathering new thoughts to take forward. As we looked yesterday at the differences between a Leader and a Manager one of the key takeaways for me was that we should be 👂' Listening so hard that we might just change our mind' 👂 We should be listening to our teams' input/opinions/ideas so hard (not just partaking in some active listening) and be open to the fact that we could change our minds and opinions. You come across a challenge that's gnawing at you that you have never dealt with before, and you feel it's unprecedented in the history of the world. But as it turns out, most of the challenges we feel are unprecedented and uniquely challenges only we are facing; someone else has already faced them or a similar variation of them and forged a way forward. It is just that it hasn’t happened in your neighborhood yet. This, and I'm sure Afeef Hussain will agree with me, is why we came together to create this Think Tank. To ponder out loud if someone has been in the situation we are in before or has dealt with a problem we are facing or has an idea that could untangle a confusion we are having, or deliver a rare insight that has remained elusive to our individual thinking and capacities. After all, we have our idiosyncracies, and our interests, skills, passions, aptitudes, temperaments, personalities, tolerances, experiences, and cognitive abilities differ vastly. However, when they are put together under the auspices of a helpful forum, problems have a way of dissipating, and solutions are engendered as a result. So, here's to creating some magic, and adding value to each other, and many more in the weeks, months, and years to come.
