Nobody goes into the therapy field knowing everything they need to know. When I started my journey as a trauma therapist, I realized that there was a lot to learn still outside of grad school. It took me some time to learn these lessons. Hours' worth of therapy sessions and post-session reflections were what got me to these realizations. And now I'm sharing them with you. Whether you're just getting started or have been practicing for years, these lessons can always serve as reminders as we continue being the therapist we want to be for others. How about you? What are some lessons you learned down the line? Share them in the comments! Therapy Theories Were you aware that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all? Or that not all therapy is the same? From cognitive to unconscious, you can find someone who practices a theory that makes sense to you. As a therapist who mainly works with children, adolescents, and their caregivers, I work with attachment theory and family systems theory. When I am at work, I soak up what is being said or done and filter it through a lens that is focused on the client's closest relationships, their family. When I assist my client in creating new coping skills, it can require some behavior changes for other people in the family, too. And it always means collaboration between caregivers and client(s). It can be a learning curve for family members to realize that there is no one person to focus on and that healing one family member means healing the family. The deeper you get, you realize that the "disorder" has an order. Once you see it, you can't unsee it, and that is where the healing and reconnection happens. #familytherapy #therapy #counselingkids #playtherapy

The workshop will focus on prevention strategies, early detection, and ensuring children receive appropriate treatment.
