There was quite a bit going on in The Huddle - our inclusive community of female founders - last week. We had the obligatory sharing of Easter break and school holiday shenanigans photos. One member took the first step into new business territory and requested everyone holds her accountable as she explores her idea further during the coming weeks at our Get Sh*t Done (co-working) sessions. Another member had experienced some staffing changes that had left her with a bit of a business conundrum, so asked for the insight of her fellow members re how to handle things, or whether they'd dealt with anything similar previously. We started to arrange our next few social nights out*. 🙌 A few of us are wondering what we've let ourselves in for as we'll be heading to the inaugural Fuckup Nights Tees Valley on 17th April. Then later in the month, we're off to 'Women & Art' at THE NORTHERN STUDIOS via Ladies, Wine & Design. And of course everyone is clutching their to-do lists and chomping at the bit to get back to some kind of 'normality' - we use that word lightly! - during this week's Get Sh*t Done co-working session on Tuesday. Variety is the spice of life! 😉 💡Feel free to hit us up if you'd like any more details about The Huddle community. *🙌 We're predominantly an online community, but in areas with a cluster of members, we like to keep it real (life) when we can. 📸 Quote from The Female Quotient

I help companies truly understand employee and customer experiences, so they can make them much better and grow. Shared Stories = Connection and Collective Wisdom, so tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.
There's a lot of talk these days about DEI. A lot of backlash. (This isn't new.) We've even got people calling elected officials "DEI hires." Elected. Not hired. Elected. Let that sink in for a minute. Fundamentally, DEI is not political. It is a moral imperative. But when people don't understand it, it's easy to fall victim to false narratives, simplistic talking points, and talking heads. It's easy to make it political. If people don't listen to the experiences of people who have been and continue to be intentionally excluded from opportunity in this country and around the world, it's easy to view one's own positive experience as simply a story of hard work, self-determination and individually-earned freedom, ignorning the structures that result in certain privileges unequally distributed -- making it harder for some to access opportunity and achieve their dreams, and making it far, far easier for others. (Not easy. Easier.) If people don't want to truly understand how and why health, wealth, employment, education and housing are distributed the way they are, it's easy to see people's negative outcomes and experiences as the result of lackluster individual effort (or worse, inherent inferiority), rather than the result of intentionally designed societal differences in access to opportunity that we ALL have inherited. At some point, we gotta let go of systems that have never served all of us, in favor of better systems that benefit people more justly, more fairly and more equitably. Everyone's experience matters in that reality. Understanding the experiences of people least like you is crucial. And if you are a person who has more privilege, access and power than others, understanding the experiences of those further away from opportunity than you are is critical if we are going to create a more perect union. Because while we are SO NOT THERE YET, if we work together, if we find the middle ground, then we can be. Anywho, it seems like a great day and a good time to dust off my keynote talk / essay from last year's YMCA DEI Symposium, "Meet Me in the Middle." Enjoy! ❤️ #SojournAmerica #SundayReading

Whiteness at Work forever changed how I understand race, whiteness, and how to act in anti-racist and equitable ways. Don’t miss your opportunity to experience this important training!
When we created Whiteness at Work in 2018, our goal was to offer a low cost summer program that would help participants understand how white dominant norms operate within organizations. In our first year, we had 128 registrants and we were thrilled! Almost 500 joined us in 2019! Then, in 2020, we launched registration two weeks before the murder of George Floyd. Thousands of you joined us that summer for our free and paid programs, and our colleague, Ericka Hines of Every Level Leadership, joined us as a facilitator. In 2022, we transitioned to making the portal available year-round, turning the program into an evergreen resource stacked with over 15 hours of content. Now, in 2024, based on what we’re observing with clients, in movement spaces, and from user feedback and insights, we’ve decided to re-design the program to better support folks through the current realities and challenges ahead–from the defunding of DEI and race equity initiatives, to socio-political upheaval, climate collapse, and the systematic, coordinated unraveling of our civil and human rights. We plan on launching our new online program in 2025 and we will keep y’all updated! Registration to Whiteness at Work closes in two weeks, forever! Anyone who joins before October 1st will have access to the portal for a full year. If you’d like to join us we’re offering registration at the reduced rate of $129 using the code: sunset

A few weeks ago, I got to spend a few days with hundreds of other Vistage Chairs at ChairWorld in San Diego. And it was phenomenal. While I loved all the learning & networking opportunities, what really stood out for me was the like-minded community I found. You see, when you’re a leader, you can often feel isolated. Most people can’t relate to what you’re experiencing. Whether you’re a solopreneur, business owner, or c-suite executive, there’s a good chance you spend much of your time siloed, away from collegial community. It seems fine at first. Maybe it even feels like a relief. However, over time, that level of isolation could turn into loneliness… and that can be hard, even painful. They say it’s lonely at the top for a reason. It can affect your mental health and impact your ability to grow as both a person and a professional. My advice? If you can get ahead of that loneliness, DO. Find ways to create intentional community with others who have similar experiences to you. An easy way to do that? If you’re a CEO, join a peer advisory board through Vistage. If you’re in Nashville, I have a few seats open in my groups. And if you’re a female small business owner outside of Nashville, check out Women’s Growth Collab!

🌟 Introducing our GET Phoenix 2024 Board Member Spotlight! 🌟 As part of our ongoing mission to highlight the diverse talents within our organization, we're thrilled to launch our GET Phoenix 2024 Board Member Spotlight Campaign! In this series, we'll be sharing the stories and insights of the exceptional individuals who drive the success of GET Phoenix. Today, we're excited to kick off the series with Luis Calderon, our dedicated Membership Chair! We caught up with Luis to learn more about his journey with GET Phoenix and what motivates him to make a difference in our community. 🔍 What is your “why” behind joining GET Phoenix? "My 'why' behind joining GET Phoenix was to find a community I could fit into and be a part of. As a Phoenix Native that moved away for his high school years, and attended college fully online, it’s been hard to have engaging contact with people in my own hometown. GET has really helped open the doors to some amazing people and has even spawned a couple of friendships I may have never made otherwise." 🤔 For those on the fence, why should young professionals join GET Phoenix? "If you’re on the fence about joining GET, the only thing I can say is that you’re missing out. Our group is diversified in not just its people, but in the career paths of each one of its members. Whether it’s real estate, or environmental science, we have someone from all walks of life, and you never know where going outside of your comfort zone might take you." 🎶 If GET Phoenix events had a walk-in song, what would yours be? "My walk-in song would probably be Wavin’ Flag by K’NAAN." Join us in celebrating Luis and the incredible work he does for GET Phoenix! Don't miss out on the chance to connect, grow, and thrive like Luis has! Join GET Phoenix today! https://buff.ly/2Hr0uuL #GETPhoenix #Community #YoungProfessionals #Networking
