Everyone is photographing all the time. And everyone has a publishing device in their pockets; photography is no longer the preserve of the professional. For humanitarian organisations this can be a major boost, not just in highlighting issues, but also for raising an organisation’s profile. A project officer may be the first in an emergency, long before the media arrive. They will take photographs, but will their images be striking enough to reach people?
