💡 The Ten Across initiative promotes resilience, adaptation, and awareness of a “knowable future” along the US Interstate 10 corridor using maps and data to focus on common challenges and solutions. The Ten Across initiative is working to unite mayors, federal officials, urban planners, engineers, subject experts, community groups, and chief resilience, sustainability, and heat officers to address shared concerns and solutions. The group’s conversations center around data and science to address shared challenges, especially in the 12 major cities in the corridor that use smart maps made with geographic information system (GIS) technology to understand present conditions and future scenarios. Breaking New Ground in Minnesota!!! Minnesota is pioneering an innovative approach to infrastructure by permitting the construction of power lines alongside its highways. Traditionally, utility routes carve paths through private lands, leading to complex negotiations and potential delays. Minnesota's new strategy offers a paradigm shift—one where efficiency meets practical use of space. This policy leap means: - Swift, streamlined development of crucial energy transport corridors. - Minimizing environmental impact by using existing state-owned right-of-way. - Reducing the need for disruptive land acquisition processes. Championing this move is not only about optimizing resources, it's about embracing a future where utility and transportation harmoniously coexist. With highway-side power lines, the state sets a benchmark for responsible, forward-thinking urban planning. #Minnesota #Infrastructure #SustainableDevelopment

Harlow is in Qualicum Beach reminding people of the engagements coming up in September to help create a final vision for the railway, an updated business case, and a video to present it all. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gyic3QNp 👉 https://lnkd.in/dGt7MhxX Engagements in the CVRD will be on the 14th of September at the Duncan Train Station. Were still waiting on the ACRD's location and date, but they've assure me they will be in early September. There are no pages for the CRD or RDN yet, but I'll let you know when they pop up. The statement on the Open House link for the CVRD states: "The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is excited to announce the upcoming open house and online survey that are being held to gather community input towards the development of a shared vision for the Island Rail Corridor in the CVRD. The open house will include an opportunity to learn about the corridor’s past, present and future considerations, to see recent video footage of the Island Corridor (produced by the CVRD and BONE Creative Inc.), and share your ideas. The CVRD’s planning process is one of many that are taking place across Vancouver Island. This work was initiated by the Province of British Columbia. Five Regional Districts (including the CVRD), provincial and federal governments, First Nations and the Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) are all participating in planning efforts. The CVRD’s planning process began in the spring of 2024 with a series of background studies on the topics of rail history, transportation, land use, remediation, climate change, and the environment. In addition to this, the CVRD began collaborating with other Regional Districts, the Province, ICF and First Nations. Stakeholder interviews taking place through the summer, and public feedback collected during the upcoming open house and online survey will inform the recommendations that will be presented in CVRD’s final report, which will be presented to the Board in the winter of 2025." Let's be ready to urge the government to fund the outcomes! Sign on today with nearly 20,800 others https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr

🌱🛡️ Join the fight to protect our environment and communities! 🛡️🌱 Data center development is essential for meeting the demands of our digital age, but are you aware of the hidden costs? In Northern Virginia, particularly in Prince William County, the rapid expansion of data centers is displacing farmland, impacting the environment, and disrupting community life. Discover the truth behind the destructive Prince William Digital Gateway, the proposed largest industrial data center zone ever created, by watching my latest video commissioned by and co-developed with the HOA Roundtable of Northern Virginia. In it we delve into the urgent issues at hand, rallying for action to safeguard residential quality of life, preserve our environment, and protect our cultural heritage. Together, let's defend our national parks and honor our shared history against the threat of this colossal industrial complex. Say no to the encroachment on our communities, environment, and heritage sites. Join us in navigating the complexities of this pivotal moment in history. Tune in to gain insights, raise awareness, and unite in the fight to preserve what matters most. I know this sounds counterintuitive coming from someone who spent over 40 years working in the IT industry here in the Washington DC area, but I also live in the community. The amount of rural land and residentially zoned acreage that is being rezoned for industrial use will have a very significant impact on our quality of life and the environment here in Northern VA. Watch the video to learn more then be ready to take a stand. Visit the HOA Roundtable of Northern Virginia website [https://lnkd.in/eY8qAb7B] and join the movement today. #DataCenterDevelopment #EnvironmentalProtection #CommunityEngagement #PrinceWilliamDigitalGateway #TakeAction #hoaroundtableofnorthernvirginia

🚗🚍🚲 Vast may be the perfect word to describe Southern California’s transportation network. More than 116,000 miles of streets, freeways, bus routes, and bike lanes connect the region’s population of 19 million people across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Imperial counties. And with the population expected to increase by 2 million by 2050, forward-thinking planning around transportation systems and development can help cities prepare for the region’s future mobility needs. This Spring, the Southern California Association of Governments released the Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy known as Connect SoCal 2024. The Plan outlines a vision for the region’s transportation and land use planning to improve accessibility across multi-modal networks, reduce sprawl and congestion, lower emissions, increase transit-oriented development, and address environmental injustices. In coordination with SCAG staff, ESA concurrently prepared the associated Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR), an effort spanning over four years and involving collaboration with more than 190 jurisdictions. Principal Planner David Crook details how the Plan and PEIR set a vision for Southern California's transportation network, as well as its communities, economy, and environment for the next 25 years. Read all about it in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/g_sc-daT #TransportationPlanning #LandUsePlanning #SouthernCalifornia #Mobility #TransportationAccessibility #ConnectSoCal #RegionalTransportationPlan #SustainableCommunities
