Google has introduced AI-generated summaries (SGE) to search results, using multi-step reasoning to provide quick insights to complex queries. Upcoming upgrades include AI-organized SERPs and the ability to adjust overviews by language and complexity. Since its launch, individual sites and publishers have experienced an estimated 60% decrease in search engine traffic. On average, only 47% of top-10 results will contribute to the AI-search overview. This monumental shift towards AI-centric search will require businesses to optimize for discoverability in not just SERPs, but also SGE. Identifying specific query strings that trigger the AI overview and publishing content tailored to those models is essential to maintain visibility and sustain organic search traffic. I believe Google is rapidly introducing AI to search, under pressure to maintain its search market share. Do you think Google will prioritize incentivizing independent publishers? If AI Overviews are going to use our content they need to prioritize reference links to our pages to incentivize independent publishers. The Future of Google Search is HERE........Google announced AI Overviews are rolling out in the US this week, as well as a range of NEW AI-driven search features coming soon. 🤖 Adjusting AI Overviews: Options to either "simplify" or "break it down" in more detail. 🤖 Multi-Stepping Reasoning: for Answering Complex Long Tailed Queries. 🤖 AI Planning: For Activities Like Meal Prep and Vacations. 🤖 AI-Organized Search Results: Categorized Under Unique Headlines for Better Organization. 🤖 Lens Search with Video: You can record a video, ask questions about the video while recording.

Google search has changed:❓You need to anticipate questions and be in the answer❓ The way we search is fundamentally changing, and has been for a while. Gen Z have been turning to Tik Tok, people are searching in smarter and more nuanced ways. And Google has stood up and taken notice. They've made massive changes. And as #ContentMarketers (or anyone with a website!) we should all be thinking completely differently about search behaviours when considering #WebsiteStrategy and #ContentStrategy. In brief, here's whats happening: 1. AI Overviews - launched last week in the US - if you do a search on google you might see a generative AI search result (not every result). This shows the content answers in the results - meaning you don't have to go through to the website. This could change organic search results substantially. 🤔 SO WHAT - if you're targeting anyone in the US right now you need to be optimising for AI Overviews and generative search. And soon this will be everywhere, so you may as well get started anyway. AND - supposedly you can manipulate the generative AI Overviews to ensure you get included so exploring this will be really key. 2. AI organised search results page - this is so interesting! It's AI organising your search results to "brainstorm with you". AI will break up your search results page by sub-headings on sub subjects related to your main subject. 🤔 SO WHAT - you need to think around your primary subject more. What related content might be needed. And build this out accordingly. 3. Coming soon - Multi-step Reasoning - "Google can do your Googling for you". You can ask Google multiple questions in one and it will create the answers for you. Google's example was that it can answer the question: "Find the best yoga or pilates studio in Boston AND show info on their intro offers AND walking time from Beacon Hill". And Google will answer all of that in one. 🤔 SO WHAT - if Google is answering questions for the searcher in the search - this might mean that people won't click through to your website. How can you get yourself in the answer, and get your content out through other channels. 4. You can Google with a video. Using Google Lens you an upload a video of something and ask Google for help. The example they gave was a video of a record player with a 'Why isn't my record working' question that Google answered from the information in the video itself. 🤔 SO WHAT - video has been used as the answers, now it's used as the questions. I think this just shows how prolific the use of videos is. If you're not doing video content, you're missing out. 5. Google wants to help you plan in the search results. 🤔 SO WHAT - if your content sits around planning in some way - i.e. planning a meal plan - you might not get traffic organically soon. Think about how you can optimise to ensure you're in the answer. See more: https://lnkd.in/e2iQxfSg

Beware, SGE is here! Good news or bad news? Google has been developing & testing Generative Experience on Search for a while now, and all SEOs I know have been trying to decrypt its future impact on Organic Traffic. Google is now officially launching AI Overviews on Search in the US. Should you be worried? Or is it just snippets on steroïds? Our favorite answer in SEO: "it depends". If your site is heavily relying on informational traffic, then yes it can lower your CTRs. But it can also be a source of opportunities. Identifying your share of traffic at risk, the potential impact on your business, and monitoring your organic traffic evolution is now more important than ever. At Labelium, we are developing an SGE readiness framework to help our clients navigate those waters, and take advantage of this AI-powered search landscape. Reach out if you want to learn more!
