In 2008, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enacted the RE-Powering America’s Land Initiative to encourage #renewable energy development on current and formerly contaminated lands, landfills, and mine sites, including brownfields. This initiative not only investigates the potential of these sites and helps developers access resources, but also offers a mapping tool to help identify eligible #brownfield sites. A skilled team of environmental consultants can assist developers in not only utilizing resources such as the RE-Powering Initiative but also in navigating a project’s assessment and mitigation requirements: https://lnkd.in/g_7RwmC4

Read the article at CalMatters, “Here we go again: California prepares to battle Trump over environmental policies,” by Julie Cart, Alejandro Lazo, Alastair Bland, and Alejandra Reyes-Velarde—November 8, 2024. “We’ve been here before. Even the players are the same. When President Donald Trump took office in 2017, his favorite sparring partner was California. The state’s ambitious environmental policies often clashed with the president’s… Now it’s California v. Trump, 2.0 — and the stakes are much the same… Here are some of the key environmental policies at stake in California… Floating offshore wind is at a critical inflection point. Wind developers say they need certainty from state and federal partners that environmental policies will remain in place to reassure investors. That’s no problem in California, they say, where state officials have sent strong signals of support, backed by billions in investments to build power transmission and ports. The industry got a $475 million injection for port infrastructure from just-passed ballot initiative Proposition 4. ‘In the next few years much of the work that needs to be done to advance offshore wind will focus on state activities,’ said Adam Stern, executive director of the industry group Offshore Wind California. While the federal scaffolding to support the industry is already in place, Stern said, there’s no guarantee that support will remain. ‘As an industry we want to work with the new administration to help strengthen the state’s grid reliability, continue to achieve energy independence and create new jobs,’ he said. ‘Those issues ought to appeal to both Republicans and Democrats.’…” See the full story below and at this link. https://lnkd.in/gz5fiadV #offshorewind #floatingwind #cleanenergy #renewables #climate #offshorewindca #pacificoffshorewindsummit

NEW FROM ME: $57 MILLION ENVIRONMENTAL FUND UNTOUCHED A Qld government program designed to offset the environmental impacts of development has some $57 million sitting untouched, failing to deliver the promises to balance the scales of environmental degradation from mines to renewable energy project construction. Here in Queensland, developers can pay the state money “financial offsets” to compensate for residual impacts on the environment. The state government is meant to use that money to protect land of equivalent value, and in the decade the program has run, amassed around $71 million. But despite the green ideals, just 20% of the money has actually been used. Not only that, but as the price of land goes up, the money collected no longer reflects the value of the land. It hit the front page of the Queensland Country Life (last) week, or get yourself an online subscription and check out the full story via the link in comments 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

From supplying affordable, reliable energy to maintaining healthy forests, NEPA delays increase project timelines and costs and put much of the decision-making process in the hands of national activists rather than local communities.👇🏼👇🏼 https://bit.ly/4emRYe2
