Today, Cove Public Affairs is 7 years old. There is something so powerful about the ocean. Constant yet constantly changing. Unpredictable and relentless, yet calm and beautiful. In Atlantic Canada, our hearts know the risk can be high and the loss great. But we also know it’s endless opportunities, how it teaches us to be innovative and relentless ourselves. The feeling I get when I sit quietly by the ocean is why I chose Cove Public Affairs as my company name (more on ‘why cove’ at https://lnkd.in/ejHVANcG). It is fitting that I am toasting 7 years in business sitting by the ocean, taking in the waves and recharging. To those who have: 🌊 placed their trust in Cove Public Affairs 🌊 recommended me to others 🌊 offered advice 🌊 provided encouragement 🌊 challenged me 🌊 partnered with me or invited me to collaborate as part as their larger team — thank you isn’t enough. Because of your trust and support, I get to do work I love. I believe I make a difference in the trajectory of other businesses and industries. Doing that, while also balancing time with family, is a gift I don’t take for granted. “…In a vast and unpredictable ocean, a cove is a safe place, sheltered away from the outside noise.” #businessanniversary #strategiccommunications #publicrelations #publicaffairs #governmentrelations #stakeholderengagement #publicconsultation #issuesmanagement #crisiscommunications #emergencyresponse #strategicplanning

The Consequences of Fence-Sitting and Broken Promises: Eroding Public Trust Opinion Piece: David Lynch Director Momentus Public Relations Ltd With nearly three decades of experience working with central and local government, I fully recognise the significance of this initiative by Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ). Addressing the escalating issue of abuse directed at elected members and council staff is critical. Ensuring that public servants can work in an environment where they are respected and feel secure is essential, particularly in roles that are vital for maintaining and strengthening democratic processes. However, it’s important to recognise that there will be occasions when ratepayers, faced with ongoing frustrations, feel they have no outlet but to vent their anger at frontline customer service staff or their elected representatives. While this frustration is understandable, particularly when people feel unheard or powerless in the face of council decisions, it must be channeled through constructive and respectful dialogue. While LGNZ’s efforts to promote safe, inclusive spaces for local government workers are commendable, part of this solution must involve not just protecting those workers but also addressing the root causes of ratepayer dissatisfaction. By encouraging open and transparent communication, councils can foster trust and understanding, which may help prevent the build-up of frustration that leads to abusive behaviour. At Public Affairs Solutions, we call ourselves a public affairs firm because we are doing something different than the classical public relations agencies. We study relationships between decision makers and citizens, internal relationships dynamics in parliamentary or government committees or boards, following the matrix of decision making process in order to achieve the goals of our client and identify opportunities. #publicaffairs #publicaffairssolutions #codrinscutaru #publicrelations #consulting
