If you 🎧 Listening The circular economy is taking shape and it could be South Africa's new opportunity or greatest threat. South Africa exports many raw materials. We have for a long time tried to interject on the value chain of a product aiming to add more value to the raw material before export. Limited success. With the circular exonomy countries and companies are investing in recycling a product once it has reached the end of its life. A time will come when these recycled raw material will become competitive with raw material extracted from earth. If we as South Africa and other African countries don't do something we may loose our martlet for basic raw material. I suggest we become the recycling centre for the world. In this way we strengthen our core strength of exporting raw materials as well as recycled raw material.

If you 🎧 Listening. Minster A lot of focus is being given to a Circular Economy. SA has always focussed on further benificiating or adding value into raw material being exported. Trying to squeeze us into the value chain of a product is difficult and takes time. We should consider an alternative. We export raw resources and as recycling technology progresses more of this raw material will be recovered from end of life products like metals in cars. BMW as an example is investing heavily into its Car2Car recycling. We should place heavy Invetsment incentives to establish these plants in SA. Soon recycled resources will become cheaper and close the gap from the resources we mine and export. We should own these places in the supply chain. Exporting resources and also becoming the country where these are recycled owning both ends of the product lifecycle. This is the value we should be adding. Hope you see the strategic importance of owning these.
