Our Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service has expanded the Transition Assistance Program, extending the opportunity for veterans, transitioning service members and their spouses to use resources to find suitable employment. The expansion includes the addition of seven new partners and the renewal of eight others in the Employment Navigator and Partnership Program that offers transitioning service members and their spouses one-on-one career services at 37 military installations worldwide. https://lnkd.in/dsZSEmkE

🇺🇸 Supporting Veterans and Their Families: A New Chapter of Opportunity 🇺🇸 The transition from military to civilian life can be challenging, not just for veterans but for their families as well. Recognizing this, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a groundbreaking initiative to support this community. VA Awards $5M in Grants: Through the first-of-its-kind Veteran and Spouse Transitional Assistance Grant Program, the VA is awarding $5 million to 13 organizations dedicated to providing employment-based resources and tools. These grants will help recently separated service members and their spouses with resume assistance, interview training, job placement services, and more. 💼📊📄📁🗃️🗒️📑 This initiative builds on the White House’s commitment to eliminating barriers to employment and increasing economic opportunities for veteran and military families. Several solid ideas - all key to not only recruiting but most importantly, retention. The military profession is very different, in dozens of ways, than a civilian career path, which makes recruiting and retention a unique challenge. Every enlisted person enters as a Private/Airman/Seaman. Every officer enters as a Lieutenant/Ensign. Talent growth starts at the bottom and promotes up.* Unlike the civilian world, there is no such thing as just hiring a bunch of civilians and making them non-commissioned officers, or hiring a swath of civilians as officers to fill mid/upper ranks. Experience matters. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 The hub creates a welcoming space where spouses can meet, share experiences, and build a support network. This is particularly valuable for spouses new to military life or adjusting to life abroad. 𝟯. 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 The staff at the hub provide information on local services, help with logistics like voter registration, and connect spouses to community programs, making the transition smoother and more manageable. Excellent article, though I add that participation in a CSP or SkillBridge internship is a must during the transition. Even if laser-focused on a career, learning a trade puts a Plan B in your pocket.
