People who live in rural areas, including Veterans, die by suicide at higher rates than people in cities. Rural suicide risk factors include greater access to lethal means, greater economic distress, lower quality behavioral health care, and remoteness. Individual risk factors such as race, sex, and mental illness remain important across both rural and urban settings. Strides have been made in closing the overall gap among VHA users. Clinicians and communities can help rural Veterans by providing culturally acceptable and feasible care within the context of available resources at the local level. The public health approach provides a framework for understanding the individual within their environment, attending to needs at the individual clinical level as well as at the interpersonal and community levels.
Your expertise can help make a difference for the 4.4 million #Veterans who live in rural communities where distance makes access to care challenging. If you’re ready to help bridge the gap, explore a career serving Veterans today: https://lnkd.in/eNcTyk5f #NationalRuralHealthDay

✍🏻 Findhelp's Connections Blog: Serving Those Who've Served ✍🏻 In honor of Memorial Day, we're resharing a recent blog post that highlights how organizations around the country are addressing the social needs of active duty service members. Every year, almost 200,000 people transition from active duty service to life as a civilian. This transition is complex and challenging, as veterans (and their families) have to adjust to new jobs, living situations, healthcare, finances, social networks, and more, and often don’t know where to turn for help. We're here to help you serve those who’ve served. Read our blog to learn how our partners like The Reveille Foundation , The American Red Cross - Service to the Armed Forces -AOK, Idaho Veterans Network, and BeneLynk empower veterans and active duty service members via the Findhelp platform. 📖 Read the full story → https://hubs.li/Q02yY_4W0 #Findhelp #Veterans #ArmedForces #SDoH #ServingThoseWhoveServed

FREE resources for transitioning service members, #veterans, retirees, spouses, and dependents starting or growing their own business! Program requirements vary. In most cases, all that's needed is an honorable or general discharge. Transitioning members typically need to be within 6 months to a year out. Given how long some business processes take, it's imperative that we equip those folks as soon as possible, while they still have a safety net. Essential Insights for Veterans One recurring theme we hear, especially after wrapping up our VetOps monthly workshop, is the drastic shift veterans experience after leaving the military. In the military, everything is provided—housing, childcare, groceries—all within reach on base. One veteran from Nashville shared how he never had to leave the base for anything. When transitioning to civilian life, veterans face the new challenge of managing housing, bills, and more independently. This change is significant whether you're leaving the corporate world for entrepreneurship or transitioning from military to civilian careers. Understanding and preparing for these shifts is crucial for a successful transition. Are you a veteran seeking guidance in navigating this new landscape?
