Taking the combination of art and technical expertise to another level!
A monumental tribute to a monumental work of Haida art. Chief James Hart’s The Dance Screen (The Scream Too) is a true one-of-a-kind, both in the context of Haida art and in the broader context of art production. Now, the masterpiece is reimagined as a 10-kilogram 99.99% pure Canadian gold coin with responsibly sourced New Zealand abalone inlays. With an exceptionally low mintage of just one coin worldwide, it is exclusively on offer at Heffel Fine Art Auction House. Learn more: bit.ly/48CZKic

major sports competitions like the olympics or other international events like world youth day bring tons of people to cities they’d potentially wouldn’t visit otherwise. i remember seeing museums in rio with open doors to everyone during wyd, especially, and i strongly believe this is one of the best ways to spread the word of arts & culture. unlocking cultural experiences should be mandatory in any plan for big events. populating museums and galleries with art that is not “accessible” to the main audience, creating special exhibitions focused on the interests of this particular group visiting and having spaces open for free or during more hours are a few initiatives that can change a lot. #olympicgames #paris2024 #opendoors #bigevents #culturalmanagement

Looking at the Next Phillips sale – (the afternoon session today on 15th May 2024), there are 142 lots in this sale. I have selected 14 works I think are wonderful and they are listed below. I usually drill down further and identify 5 lots I really wanted to acquire. If I had a catalogue I would mark up these lots on my catalogue, I note my starting bid price and my maximum bid price too. I work out all the potential costs, so I know exactly what I am in for. I do my research ahead of any sale and look at typical pricing of the artists works and try to gauge how the artists are performing in the market, by researching the artists’ auction history and familiarising myself with the galleries that represent the artists and the typical sales prices for those types of works. I drill down into the specific artworks being offered and read the catalogue notes, see the works in person and ask for condition reports. For works outside of my specialist knowledge area I speak with specialists/experts and try to get their views on the quality of the works I am interested in. A lot of research is normally done ahead of any buying decision and participation in an auction, including due diligence on the specific piece. Here is one of my favourite works in the sale: TITUS KAPHAR Pushing Back the Light Estimate US$120,000 - 180,000 271.8 × 195.6 × 16.5 cm oil and tar on canvas See it here: https://lnkd.in/ek3x7Cdp To find out more about how to buy art, keep following Vitruvian. Millions of dollars worth of items. But more than that, is the richness of each item. The history. The story. The connection. Tiferet Auction House. The Judaica items that pass hands there etched in the heart of time. Heirlooms. Antiques. Pieces of the past. How do you capture that in one simple tagline? How do you tell people what lies before them? How do you tell the buyers that it's up to them to carry it through to the next generation? We focused on the power they hold. Tiferet Auction: A legacy, in your hands. Strong. Powerful. And even literal.

Prices are peaking in American numismatics and important coins, which haven't been seen in the commercial market in decades, are flooding the market as it undergoes demographic turnover and the elderly liquidate or 'rightsize' their hordes as part of estate planning. Coins are very much different than stamps. American numismatics, in particular, continue to appreciate at greater than the rate of inflation while the stamp collecting market collapsed decades ago and stamps more than a half century old are used for postage: American USPS unused stamps, like Federal Reserve currency, never lose their printed value.
Are you ready for a sneak peek? This stunning 1883 Proof $20 gold piece offers amazing contrast between the mirrored fields and frosty Deep Cameo surfaces. Graded Proof 66 Deep Cameo by PCGS, the 1883 Proof $20 hails from a small mintage of only 92 coins and formerly resided in the Eliasberg Collection. Check it out at Heritage Auctions in advance of our January FUN Auction next month: https://lnkd.in/ebZJyqtu
