Yesterday, staff, volunteers and trustees from across the Depaul Group came together to celebrate the launch of our 2023 Impact Report. At the webinar, we heard how Depaul supported over 124,800 people globally in 2023. Kathy Johnson spoke about Depaul USA's innovative ROOTS Program, which supports women exiting prison to transition back into society, by providing housing and financial skills workshops. We also heard from Andrew McKnight about Depaul France's new housing programme, which provides those experiencing homelessness with a home of their own. We then looked to the future as we shared our new strategy, which will see us end homelessness for more people in more places. Thank you to our incredible teams across the globe who make all of this work possible👏

A balanced approach to homelessness is essential. Collaborating with law enforcement, outreach teams, businesses, philanthropic organizations, cities, counties, and faith-based organizations is crucial to success. In my decade of experience in this field, I have been fortunate to work in cities with leaders who embrace "out-of-the-box" thinking. This innovative approach has enabled our teams to achieve long-lasting results and successes. 4o

I know it’s really difficult for Social Care and Political Leaders to get their heads around but safe loving families and “service users” really do know best. A choice based system will radically transform outcomes AND radically improve value for money and productivity. Will our political leaders and social care leaders have the vision, the wisdom and the compassion to finally talk to the choice committed voices currently at the margins in terms of social policy and practice? #AmorVincitOmnia And yes that is one of the 2 Latin phrases I know.

One of the best parts about working at Visit.org is that I get to participate in our social impact experiences on a regular basis! To honor Women's History Month, today the Visit.org team gathered for a storytelling session with a nonprofit that supports women transitioning out of the correctional system. We learned about the failures of the U.S. criminal justice system and the many barriers to reentry. Then, we listened to powerful stories from women who have been to prison. The nonprofit's mentorship-based reentry programming works: Incredibly, community members involved with the nonprofit have a 1.4% three-year recidivism rate compared to the 38.9% local average. I'm leaving this experience with deep empathy for justice-impacted people and reinvigorated support for second chances. National and local leaders are working to mobilize us all to act against inequitable systems that are preventing us from achieving the abundant housing future we know is possible. An overwhelming 1,000+ organizations and leaders from across the country have filed more than 40 amicus briefs in support of Gloria Johnson and the rights of people experiencing homelessness in the landmark case going before the Supreme Court on April 22. Among these leaders are our partners at Funders Together to End Homelessness , National Alliance to End Homelessness, and Enterprise Community Partners, who are lighting the way by equipping the field with the solutions communities should continue deploying over the long haul to support people after the Supreme Court hearing. Now is a critical moment for all of us. We have the chance to use our CaseMaking skills to ensure everyone sees their shared stake in the two futures created in this moment. 📃 Read the brief from Funders Together, NAEH, and Enterprise Community Partners here: https://lnkd.in/gztVPRBY 📄 See the full list of amicus briefs here: https://lnkd.in/dz-kXDyd 📕 Review the CaseMaking playbook we created in partnership with NAEH here: https://lnkd.in/e9Gu6eBj

An intriguing innovation in citizen engagement in social choosing through pension fund investing is the Participant Dialogues being pioneered by pension funds in the Netherlands, designed and delivered by Emmeline C. https://lnkd.in/e_u_Rrvd Politics is a reactive, redistributive and corrective sociology for "righting the wrongs" and protecting public health, public safety and the public's wellbeing. Money is a proactive, redistributive and formative sociology for forming the businesses that form the technologies that form the choices that form the economy that forms society and our shared future. And fiduciary money, the money society aggregates into social trusts for provisioning the social goods of Workforce Pensions and Civil Society Endowments, is already accountable under the laws of fiduciary duty, to the common sense of reasonable people. Citizens Assemblies for giving people a voice in investment decision making by pensions is a powerful social innovation for our times.
"Putting power in the hands of citizen assemblies is a popular idea in Europe. It hasn’t found nearly as much traction in the United States, but advocates hope it can be a salve for the country’s toxic division." Bend, Oregon is hosting one of the only Citizens' Assemblies in the country, utilizing small-D democracy to solve our most intractable problems. George Anders of The Chronicle of Philanthropy spoke with assembly members and hosts DemocracyNext, The Rockefeller Foundation, and Omidyar Network about this radical experiment in solving youth homelessness. HOW DO YOU WRAP 30 YEARS OF LOOKING FOR ANSWERS? Reveal the uncomfortable questions we’ve asked ourselves. RAFT started small back in 1994. Unfortunately, we grew because the demand grew. Which told us that something wasn’t working because the problem was only escalating. So we began questioning absolutely everything. And we have never stopped pushing and prodding. To celebrate our 30th we thought it would be interesting to share 30 questions that have challenged us and the out-of-the-box answers we have come to. We invite you to follow our regular updates and find out how RAFT is having a dramatic impact on reducing teen homelessness. https://lnkd.in/geduuHQJ
