There is just 6 weeks between these photos 💔 Childhood cancer is not something anyone wants to think about. We didn't. Until it happened to us. Only 2% of childhood cancer research funding comes from the government. The rest comes from people like us... normal people that have been directly impacted, and are doing everything we can to change the outcome for other children. We operate almost entirely on a volunteer basis. Fundraising gurus will tell you that, to attract corporate partnerships and support, we need to find a way to align our causes with the business's aims and policies. We need to find 'synergies'. The challenge is, childhood cancer isn't on any business's #ESG policy. There aren't many synergies to be found. But, we still need to raise money; to support our awareness campaigns, our pledge to ICR's research project, and real-life children and their families throughout their cancer journey. As I plan out my year, there are two dates that have been on my mind. The first is February 20th, which marks 5 years in remission for my child who battled Stage 3 Neuroblastoma, a deadly and devastating cancer. If our last round of scans goes well, my child will be considered 'cured'...I struggle to even type the word! The second date is Sunday, April 7th, which marks our 5th #Run2Cure in the Domain. This year, my child can participate in the run, thanks to the amazing work of our Oncology team. However, we owe a lot of credit to #TEC member Lucy Jones and Neuroblastoma Australia, who have played an incredible role in funding important research into this rare and terrible childhood cancer. Our goal this year is to raise $5k...for 5 years. Help us make this year a big one by getting involved in any way you can. Here are some ideas: 1. Join our team and come run/walk with us! You don't have to be a fitness fanatic to join. It's a beautiful walk/run around the Domain. 2. Donate what you can. Remember any donation above $2 is tax deductible! 3. In memory of Pulchery Thelusma, I am sharing her story to promote awareness about #colorectalcancer. I first met Pulchery almost 20 years ago at Georgetown University #HoyaSaxa. Her warm smile and genuine kindness touched everyone she met. A devoted mental health professional and mother, Pulchery recently passed away at just 37 years old, leaving behind her 8-year old son. Her tragic loss highlights three critical actions we all can take: 1. Stay Connected: Regularly check in with friends, colleagues, and classmates. It's vital to support each other, as we never know the challenges someone may be facing. 2. Prioritize Health: Early detection saves lives. Please schedule regular #cancerscreenings. 3. Support Cancer Research: To those in the field of cancer research, therapeutics development, and care, your efforts are crucial. Keep pushing for advancements and be relentless for patients. It is well-documented that early detection of breast cancer saves lives; 95 percent of women who receive an early diagnosis can see high rates of survival with treatment. Brem Foundation's mission is to maximize women's chances of finding early breast cancer through education, access programs, and advocacy. We are dedicated to empowering women from all backgrounds through education on risk factors and personalized screening options and providing actionable information to take charge of their breast health. Early diagnosis is critical. For Sarcoma Awareness Month this year, we're focusing on the critical issue of prompt diagnosis through our "Don't Delay" campaign. Our research shows that 1 in 3 people see a healthcare provider for over 6 months before being correctly diagnosed, causing immense anxiety and loneliness. By learning the signs of sarcoma and not delaying contacting your GP if you experience symptoms, we can work together to improve early detection and save lives.
