Travis Houston , I am excited to see this. It addressed a concern I had which you will see below. This is the first time this type of position has been created, but I am retired and may be woefully out of date. I have thought in the past that communities with the capacity should create such a position that could coordinate with the EM as well as plan and train for preparedness, mitigation and recovery, even if it is only for the staff doing outreach for the homeless and shelter operations. The coalition under this position would include the local Housing Authority, Homeless Task Force, nonprofit shelter operations or nonprofit groups working directly with the homeless and /or public multi-family residents. Forgive the generalization but public multi-family housing with many vulnerable residents needs to be connected with local emergency management and other resources. They may be competing for resources during a disaster without already having a place at the table. Which is why they are on this list. Some facilities may not have emergency or evacuation plans. They expect the residents to act for themselves in this non-assisted living facility. There may be preparedness training provided to the residents. The residents however often expect the administration to take care of them, particularly the mobility-impaired, if there is an evacuation. This will impact response, especially if they are in an older facility built in or near a flood zone in a flood event. I hope that the City of Dallas Office of Homeless Solutions' action in a metropolitan hub will generate discussion in other communities on their own plans. Is adding public multi-family housing too much? If my dated conclusions are off the mark everyone, please update and correct.

Google photos reminding me of the time I moved to Chicago for six weeks. LOL. This is a good story. In 2022, I started work for a company that demanded that I move to snowy Chicago. I had bought a home in Colorado, but I rented a cheap apartment in Chicago so I'd be eligible for the job. **Imagine my surprise, when, in my first meeting, I met FIVE EMPLOYEES currently living in Colorado. 😯** They made a HUGE MISTAKE. The company had said that hiring laws prevented them from employing anyone in Colorado. So, I went through a massive amount of effort (and expense) to move across the country -- only to find out that I never had to do any of it. Six weeks later, I was back home, warm and cozy -- but also profoundly irritated. Imagine having that as your first experience with an organization. Honestly, the relationship with the firm never recovered, and I left after a beleaguered six-month tenure that was fraught with conflict and disorganization. I'm now much more thoughtful when I interview, and I'd hope that the company I left is much more considerate when thinking about their own internal processes. You have to treat your employees right if you want them to stay. #employment #relocation
