SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH SUPPORTING BENEFITS OF MEDITATION AND YOGA -
As Arjun immersed himself in the practice of meditation and yoga, he became increasingly curious about the scientific research supporting their benefits. He discovered a wealth of studies that validated the positive effects of these ancient practices on mental and physical health.
1. The Neuroscience of Meditation: Modern research in neuroscience has shown that meditation can have profound effects on the brain. Studies using brain imaging techniques have found that regular meditation practice can increase the density of grey matter in regions associated with memory, learning, and emotional regulation. Meditation has also been shown to reduce the activity of the amygdala, the brain’s fear center, leading to decreased stress and anxiety.
2. The Physiological Benefits of Yoga: Yoga has been extensively studied for its benefits on physical health. Research has demonstrated that yoga can improve flexibility, strength, and balance. It has also been found to lower blood pressure, reduce chronic pain, and enhance cardiovascular health. Yoga’s emphasis on mindful movement and breath control is believed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing the effects of stress.
3. Mental Health and Well-being: Both meditation and yoga have been shown to have significant benefits for mental health. Studies have found that these practices can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve mood, and enhance overall well-being. The practice of mindfulness, a key component of meditation, has been shown to increase emotional resilience and improve cognitive function.
4. Stress Reduction and Resilience: Meditation and yoga are effective tools for managing stress and building resilience. Research has shown that these practices can lower cortisol levels, the body’s primary stress hormone, and reduce the inflammatory response associated with chronic stress. By promoting a state of relaxation and enhancing emotional regulation, meditation and yoga help individuals cope with life’s challenges more effectively.

Well, here we are. It has been quite a ride, many ups and downs, but way more good times than bad. I need to thank all of my sales managers, sales directors, general managers, regional and country directors, at the last count around 8,6,9,7 and 5 respectively, for their constant help and support. The countless members of the service and production teams for putting up with me and not moaning too much whenever I dropped the ball. All of my sales colleagues past and present, way too many to mention, for their encouragement, advice, piss taking and support, this job would have been impossible without you.
Being now 60 years old, I feel this job is no longer for me, however if I were just 10 years younger, Elis would be the very best company for me to work for. The 35 year old me would be buzzing, the service we offer today is far far better than it ever was and what I believe is planned for the future will keep us at least 12 months ahead of any competition, like it has always been. To the members of the service team who may not agree 100% with that last comment, remember how many customers your plant services and how many customers actually complain in any given month. It is such a small percentage, far more customers are happy with us, they just don't have the time to call you to tell you so.
When I joined Sunlight there were big walls between the departments, sales never talked to service, production never talked to sales and transport never talked to anyone. Over the years we have knocked those walls down and we are so much better for it. My advice to everyone is for you all to keep talking. Especially my newer sales colleagues, your service team colleagues are a goldmine of information, so make them your best friends. A box of biscuits at Christmas or a round of ice lollies in the summer go a long way.
With that I'll say goodbye. We are off travelling. See you later.
** Congratualtions Simon Ossitt **
After 24 hugely successful years at Elis Simon is retiring. We had a great night last night not only celebrating the success of the team in Q2 but also the success that Simon Ossitt is.
Its very rare now especially in sales that someone reaches a 24 year career in one company but with Simon it is no surprise, speaking with various people around the business the same words to describe Simon always come up, dapper, committed, knowledgeable, gentleman, honest, successful.
Simon it has been a pleasure, you have been an example to your peers at Elis in an outstanding career and you will be missed. Enjoy the free time and all that single malt whisky 😜 👏👏

Do you celebrate your wins?
One thing most of us hardly do is celebrate our little wins.
Whatever you have achieved, no matter how small it seems, please celebrate it and be happy about it. That achievement you call "little" is something someone else has been striving for years to accomplish.
So, you see, there is no such thing as a "little win," because what you consider small is a very big deal for someone else. Celebrate each achievement like it’s the best gift in your life.
Life is too short to be hard on yourself just because you haven't reached the position you planned for yourself. You will get there eventually; just keep moving forward and remember to celebrate each step you achieve. It does a lot for your inner self, and you never know who you might be motivating by doing so.
Recently, someone reached out to me after following my WhatsApp status updates to thank me for the things I usually post. He said that my daily post have been a real motivation to him, as he sometimes feels like a failure.
Now, what did that post do for him? It brightened his mood and gave him the courage to keep pushing and celebrating the little he has achieved.
So, my Kings and Queens, never compare yourself to others; you are special in your own way. That achievement you think is too small to celebrate, might be someone else’s biggest achievement. That’s life. ✅
Look at yourself in the mirror and appreciate your little wins. Tell yourself, “Congratulations to my beautiful self for achieving this great milestone.” Then keep pushing forward for another greater achievement.
Remember, each achievement leads to another greater achievement.
Even your beautiful self deserves that celebration within you, and you know it. ☺️🌹

What Makes a Champion? ✨✌
Champions aren’t born—they’re forged through dedication, hard work, and relentless practice. Success doesn’t come from talent alone; it’s earned through consistent effort and unwavering commitment. Just like no one is born a champion, no one achieves greatness overnight.
Every successful person you admire has put in countless hours of practice, faced failures, and kept going. It's the daily effort, persistence, and not giving up that turns an ordinary person into a champion.
