As students return to school, #Jefferson Elementary in Jefferson City exemplifies the struggles of rural districts with aging infrastructure. Built in 1958, the school faces severe issues like #mold, #asbestos, and unreliable heating. Despite the clear need for significant repairs or a new building, funding remains a major hurdle. Renovation costs exceed $20 million, nearly as much as building a new school, but the county commission has repeatedly stalled on approving funds. This leaves 500 students and dedicated staff in a deteriorating environment, grappling with daily challenges and #safety risks. #EducationChallenges #InfrastructureCrisis #JeffersonCity https://lnkd.in/eV_H2bPy

The report to committee said the Council took possession of the new Greyhope School & Community Hub last October 2023 and it was brought into use following the October 2023 school holiday break. For the Tillydrone Primary School, the report said the principal contractor has continued with the erection of the cross-laminated timber structure with external fabric and internal first fix works have now started. For the energy from waste plant in Tullos Industrial Estate, Indaver, the operations contractor for the services phase, has now formally taken control of the operation of the facility from the main building contractor after the successful achievement of the construction and commissioning phases. The report said works have progressed with the Tillydrone Cruyff Court and a completion date is imminent. Works to repair and conserve the external fabric of the Grade A listed, early 17th Century Tolbooth building in the city centre have included renewing the old lead on the existing spire, the repair/conservation of stonework of the external walls and parapets and associated works. The works are progressing with repointing, carving of replacement stone, rot treatment, structural timber replacement and stripping of leadwork all ongoing. However as works progress, the report said it is becoming apparent that the condition of the stone and structural timbers is worse than anticipated which has led to additional works being required with a likely delay to completion and extra costs. https://lnkd.in/gqft9-7a

At Preim, we understand each development comes with its own complexities – like estates constructed by the Ministry of Defence, that sometimes use non-traditional construction. Many of these estates have non-adopted private civils infrastructure such as roads and sewers, so if a problem arises an average contractor might struggle to find a fix quickly. After four years of persistence and negotiations, we were able to secure Anglian Water adoption of over 4km of private communal water mains and services at the ex-MOD Badersfield development, outside Norwich. The adoption resulted in: 💷 A significant cost saving to the community. 🕊️ Peace of mind for residents that their water supply was in safe hands. ⚠️ Maintenance and ownership of the communal water infrastructure moved to the right people – ‘the water company’. We believe in finding the best solution possible for the communities in which we work, no matter how complex the issue. Maintaining Santa Rosa's extensive 512-mile street network is a year-round commitment. As part of this effort, the Transportation and Public Works teams works to repair pavement surfaces, utilizing techniques like pothole filling, crack sealing, and patching to prevent moisture damage. Each year, slurry seal treatments are applied to around 2.5 million square feet of city streets, preserving their quality and longevity. This year, the team will be combining the 2024 Slurry Seal residential pavement treatment with the Pavement Preventive Maintenance program for arterial streets. Preparation work such as crack sealing and striping removal is currently underway. The slurry seal application process begins June 12. All streets identified on the project map will receive slurry seal and restriping, however, many of the arterial streets will receive a modified restriping to add additional bike lines as designed in the Local Road Safety Plan. Slurry seal is a crucial preventive measure, involving the application of an emulsified asphalt mixture to protect streets from water damage and enhance resistance. Before application, cracks are sealed, repairs made, and roads cleaned. Once cured, all roads will be restriped, ensuring they remain safe and functional for the community.
