There are just three spaces left for our first 'social survey stroll' around South Wingfield on Wednesday 15th January. Join us for the morning to learn more about our 'buildings at risk' digital app and have a go completing some simple condition surveys for Grade II listed buildings in the village. It doesn't matter if you've used the app yet or not - all are welcome to come along and learn something new in good company. We'll even round off the morning with coffee and cake at the Wingfield Station 1947 cafe. Find out more and reserve your space via Eventbrite (if it has sold out, please add your name to the waiting list and we can let you know if a place becomes available). We're going to be running other strolls throughout Amber Valley over coming months so look out for one coming to a town or village near you, soon! There are also regular 121 sessions on offer - in person or online. Get in touch if you'd like to know more: volunteers@derbyshirehistoricbuildingstrust.org.uk https://lnkd.in/e_XGQ2pj Made possible thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund funding and National Lottery players.

One of the key themes discussed at a Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and David Burton-Sampson event last week at the Blue Cactus Digital office, was the role of social media in local crime, staff productivity, skills gaps and mental health. A point brought up again and again through the two-hour discussion was that social media companies need to be held accountable, especially when it comes to reporting fake news, or glorifying events that are happening. Although a big part of our work at Blue Cactus is using social media in honourable ways, to educate, inform and expand the reach of company messages (all the companies we work with have good causes whether charities, law, health and social care), social media needs to change to show facts and genuine information, rather than generating hysteria. I was interested to read about Ofcom's Online Safety Act coming into force on the BBC this morning. But are the likes of Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok too big to take it seriously? Are fines enough? What role do we, as business owners, need to take to change social media for the better? BBC News - Social media faces big changes under new Ofcom rules https://lnkd.in/eNcMZSjd

Two well-managed areas make up a thriving community and when one is neglected, the other gets affected. These areas are simply “Engagement and Support.” Engagement and support aid in nurturing the relationship between users and the project. If one is lacking, the other wouldn't even be felt in the community. When the engagement of a community isn't well-managed, providing support to members would 100% be a problem. This is because the strategies that you apply in engaging with your community shouldn't be different from the strategies you would apply in providing support. So if community engagement is difficult to handle then providing support would be difficult as well. None of these two communities would thrive if: 1️⃣ Community A only cares about engaging with members while, 2️⃣ Community B is only concerned about providing support. Instead, the one that would thrive would be the one where the founder cares about engaging with members as much as the founder cares about providing support. Community engagement and support are crucial for a thriving and sustainable community. The energy used in engaging with members should be the same as the one required for providing support. The sky is only the beginning when you are able to get these two areas together. ___________ My name is Rachel Edeh and I help web3 founders build a thriving community or manage one. Kindly send a DM if you're a founder who needs help with building a thriving community. #web3 #founders #communityengagement #support
