Bioethics services are often perceived as not being fit-for-purpose to deal with contemporary and often time-sensitive issues. In our recent paper from our European Research Council (ERC) funded TechChild project, we highlight the need for time-sensitive, flexible bioethics services, with increased inclusion of palliative care input as early as possible to support children and their families. PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE JARDIN KICK-OFF!! The Joint Action JARDIN has total funding of €18.75 million (€15 million from the EU and €3.75 million from the Member States) for a period of three years. It is an important element of the ERN file involving all EU Member States, Norway and Ukraine, and aims to integrate ERNs into national health systems and pave the way for their future sustainability, for example by developing national patient pathways linked to ERNs, developing national reference networks mirroring and complementing the ERNs, and developing structures for undiagnosed patients. The expected results from JARDIN, including recommendations, blueprints and reports from concrete pilot implementations should eventually stimulate the elaboration of improved national plans for rare diseases in EU Member States. JARDIN will therefore play a key policy role in the future development of ERNs and in the treatment of rare diseases. https://lnkd.in/dGSnEV7N

DrMed, MBA-PHM, MBA-CML, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Team Leader at World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa
I had the privilege of participating as a keynote speaker and panelist at the 15th annual CUGH Conference, where I addressed the critical topic of 'One Health and antimicrobial stewardship: A multisectoral approach to prevent the emerging epidemic of antimicrobial resistance'. Hosted by Makerere University College of Health Sciences, this session provided a vital platform to discuss interventions to tackle this urgent global health challenge. During the conference, I highlighted several key interventions aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) including: · Mobilizing partners and stakeholders to support the implementation of AMR activities. · Developing domestic financing mechanisms to sustainably support AMR initiatives. · Strengthening AMR multisectoral coordination mechanisms. · Linking AMR National Action Plans to other national priorities and strategies for comprehensive implementation. · Engaging Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and youth groups in public education on responsible antimicrobial use and the consequences of AMR. · Establishing robust mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of National Action Plans. Hence, effective 'One Health' collaboration is crucial to minimize unnecessary antimicrobial use and prevent the spread of antimicrobial resistance. It is imperative that we unite behind this paramount cause to combat AMR and safeguard public health.

One more day until our screening of Below the Belt. A first event of this kind in Greece, it's part of our commitment to raise awareness on endometriosis and its impact. A disease considered harmless, it is in reality one with severe medical consequences, causing pain that leaves one incapacitated. It is also a disease with a huge socio-economic impact due to the delay in diagnosis and the impact on work. In the presence of Ms Shannon Cohn, we are looking forward to having as many of you with us and contributing to a much needed change. https://lnkd.in/e9kXdbkn

🐍Happy International Snakebite Awareness Day!! 🐍 Here is a fun snakebite blog by Cassie Asberry! "Somewhere along the line, you may have heard that you should apply a tourniquet, a pressure dressing, or mechanical suction to the affected extremity/wound. You might have also heard that bloodletting or electrotherapy improves outcomes. None of this is true. Misinformation is abundant when it comes to appropriate management of snake bites. Tourniquets have not been proven to reduce morbidity or mortality; in fact, existing literature demonstrates that tourniquets and pressure dressings actually worsen local tissue necrosis, increase antivenom requirements, and lengthen recovery time, especially in cases of pit viper envenomation."
