A couple updates today -- first is a HARVEST REPORT where we continue our Great Falls-region coverage. Ed Bandel who is cutting wheat near Great Falls visits with us in our video below. Second, the NASS crop condition and crop progress reports came out yesterday for Montana. Highlights include: 👉 Winter wheat crop is predicted to be a whopper at 97B bushels and nearly 3/4 complete. 👉 Durum is having a tough go, forecast at 25% down from 2023. We'll have a producer report form the northeast corner soon. 👉 Barley is rating stronger than last year with 59% good to excellent. A few showers in the past week have barley growers pacing over potential sprout; we'll keep you posted. 👉 Spring wheat is predicted to be 33 bu/acre versus NASS' earlier 35 bu prediction; the lesser June moisture and July heat has definitely been a factor. https://lnkd.in/gfDZdVUb

When scouts fan out across North Dakota fields in the third week of July, they will be looking to confirm or moderate expectations of a high-yielding spring #wheat crop forecast this month by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The larger crop is aligned with a big improvement in US wheat supplies thanks to a larger hard red winter wheat harvest, and will help the global balance sheet. → https://ow.ly/gVUq50SElxg

Harvesting crops that are too dry can have direct yield and financial impact on the crop you deliver. Being aware of the financial impacts is important to make harvest decisions and how they impact the bottom line. Soybeans in particular have a larger impact as the moisture can swing very quickly throughout the day. Check out this article by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on the importance of knowing your soybean moisture levels before going to the elevator. https://bit.ly/3PISqJa
