Each Fall, I embark on my "Fundraising Frenzy" to support a local organization, matching donations along the way. This year, I am dedicated to Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children, a local organization that focuses on providing Food for Kids. E̲v̲e̲r̲y̲ ̲s̲t̲o̲r̲y̲ ̲i̲s̲ ̲u̲n̲i̲q̲u̲e̲,̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲f̲o̲r̲ ̲k̲i̲d̲s̲ ̲f̲a̲c̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲f̲o̲o̲d̲ ̲i̲n̲s̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲i̲e̲s̲,̲ 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁. Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children is a remarkable local initiative, sending over 500 families in the area 60 lbs of fresh food, necessities, and more each week. The need is clear - kids are going hungry. Shockingly, 1 in 6 kids in CT experience food insecurity, but since 2018, Camella's Cupboard has been making a difference. It's all about the kids. If you would like to support this cause, there are several ways to help or donate! 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐭𝐭𝐩𝐬://𝐛𝐢𝐭.𝐥𝐲/𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐂𝐮𝐩𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲. I LOVE food rescue. To me it's a perfect business solution to 3 problems. 😠 Hunger. I hate being hungry. No one should be hungry. 🗑 Waste. Throwing useful stuff away infuriates me (especially with food, which takes a ton of effort to produce in the first place!). ⛽ Energy. Food is fuel. If the whole community is fueled with the right kind of energy...imagine how much better off we all would be. That's why I love it when teams like The Open Door and Second Harvest Heartland connect food to families. What's one of your favorite business solutions that solves multiple problems at once?
We're breaking records all over the place—all thanks to donations from local stores and the tireless work of our many food rescue and warehouse volunteers! 👏Give yourselves a hand!

Wakefern Food Corp. has always been equal parts heart ❤️ and ambition. So, with the close of the successful 2024 Wakefern Showcase, we were proud to partner with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and donate nearly four trucks of fresh foods and groceries from the Showcase supermarket displays. These donated items will help as many as 20,000 families in our region. Thanks to all the team members who volunteered to pack and load – and to the CFBNJ for their ongoing commitment and creativity in the fight against hunger.

This project was both fun and saddening. Over 1000 children told us why food is important to them. Many showed us that systemic #hunger issues are recognized even at such a young age. Some notable quotes: "If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger." "Hunger is something no one should struggle with or be judged for." "They got money for wars but can't feed the poor." "If you can't feed 100 people, then just feed one. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." "Food is important to me because I have food but not everyone has food." "Food is important to me because it helps you physically and mentally. Don't stop eating because you're unhappy with your body." "A pointed commentary on the class divide, how food is sustenance for some and decadence for others." #HungerActionDay #HungerActionMonth
It's Hunger Action Day! Today, we filled the James Renshaw Orchard with 1,500 orange paper plates decorated by local children to raise awareness about food insecurity. The 1,500 plates represent the number of students in the Erie Public School District who receive a bag from the Second Harvest BackPack Program weekly. The program discreetly places kid-friendly, nutritious foods in participating children’s backpacks on Fridays to ensure they have what they need over the weekend and during school breaks. 1 in 5 children in northwest Pennsylvania experience food insecurity. Join us during Hunger Action Month! Every action counts - whether you donate, advocate, volunteer, or spread the word.
