In conversation with Shwetha Raja : "My style of Design includes a lot of colour, and is heavily influenced by Indian art and Indian art forms. A lot of my designs include Indian elements in a modern and contemporary art form. It took me around 2-3 years to develop my style, and I would still say it’s in the nascent stages, and there is much room for growth. Design styles are every evolving as the trends change, but my roots would always be in Indian art styles." https://lnkd.in/d8FPSFF3

Dear Team, As we delve into the realm of Chinese cultural design, it’s essential to recognize the richness and depth embedded in millennia of tradition and innovation. In our approach, let’s emphasize the following key aspects: 1. Harmony: Central to Chinese design philosophy is the concept of harmony—seeking balance and equilibrium in all elements. Whether in color schemes, spatial arrangements, or material choices, let’s strive for a harmonious composition that reflects the interconnectedness of all things. 2. Symbolism: Chinese culture is steeped in symbolism, with each motif, color, and pattern carrying deep meaning. Let’s incorporate symbolic elements thoughtfully, respecting their cultural significance and ensuring they resonate with our intended message or purpose. 3. Nature-Inspired: Nature holds a revered place in Chinese culture, influencing design aesthetics profoundly. Drawing inspiration from the natural world—be it through motifs like the lotus flower or themes of landscape painting—can infuse our designs with timeless elegance and tranquility.

Maximalism which marked much of 1970’s art and design is experiencing a revival. It is a growing European and British trend potentially in response to imposed frugality. Consumers have had to opt for cutting back in the face of financial stress. Excess marks maximalist design with everything being over the top bringing with it a sense of living in the moment. In the 1970s, artists and designers borrowed heavily from the late 1930s and much of 1940’s post war American fashion and interior design. Style was exaggerated. India is considered to be a source of inspiration for maximalism in architecture and interior design. Westerners have appropriated India’s culture over centuries. They have adapted it for fashion, music, interiors and architecture. The current revival started in 2022 as more consumers were eager to consign the restrictive COVID era to the past. British interior designers especially have embraced maximalism and have amassed Instagram followers interested in copying the trend. Image credit: Wowhaus.com

I often find that all our works are deeply enriched by the diverse cultures and traditions that surround us. Each culture offers a unique perspective on design, craftsmanship, and functionality that inspires creations. For instance, the minimalist aesthetics of Japanese design resonate with simplicity and harmony. Incorporating elements such as clean lines and natural materials into my pieces allows me to create a sense of calm and balance. Conversely, the vibrant colors and intricate patterns found in Indian textiles inspire me to add bold touches to my designs, celebrating the beauty of individuality and expression. This blend of influences not only shapes the furniture we create but also helps clients connect with their heritage in meaningful ways. I believe that understanding and appreciating cultural influences is essential for any designer. It fosters a deeper connection between our work and the spaces we create. What cultural elements do you find inspiring in your designs? Let’s share our stories and insights!
