Jenn's design work for the Toronto Maple Leafs Indigenous Celebration Night was recently featured on AnishinabekNews.ca! She shared these thoughts on the project: “I was really, really excited. I was humbled. And I was just hopeful and optimistic to show [the Maple Leafs'] commitment to reconciliation and pursuing these opportunities in that space. Not all the teams are doing that. Not all the franchises are doing that.” Jenn had the opportunity to attend the Indigenous Celebration Night game and was delighted by the positive reaction to her logo. She looks forward to future work with MLSE and the Maple Leafs in the future and will continue to champion opportunities for Indigenous designers across the country. Jenn is a proud Anishinaabe-kwe from Shawanaga First Nation and it was a pleasure to be featured in Anishinabek News. This online publication by Anishinabek Nation also publishes a quarterly print issue for its member First Nations. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gDXmcDdK

🌉 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞 🌉 An architect was hired to design a bridge across a vast river that divided two rival towns. The towns had long held grudges, each seeing the other as inferior, and the bridge was meant to bring trade between them. The architect designed a grand structure, pouring all his skill into the project. But as the bridge neared completion, whispers of sabotage emerged. People from both towns tried to dissuade him, claiming they didn’t want “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦” coming too close. Yet, he ignored the protests, determined to finish. He didn’t stop, even as threats escalated. On the bridge’s opening day, few dared to cross it, fearing hostility. But one brave child from the north side took the first step and walked all the way across, where a child from the south welcomed him with a smile. Soon, others followed, until the bridge buzzed with people from both towns. Years later, it was more than just a bridge—it was a symbol of unity, built by a man who dared to see beyond the walls people placed around themselves. When cityscapes undergo extreme makeovers, it's not just buildings that are affected – it's the soul of the community. Just as the phenomenon of demolishing historical heritage has gone global, so too have movements to preserve and care for our built environment. Since 2022, Argentinian architect Natalia Karbabian (@ilustroparanoolvidar on Instagram) has been raising awareness of this issue by illustrating demolished buildings. Making our homes look even more beautiful is Bedlington-based Troody Scrumptious, who create homeware that looks after our planet and the people on it. Troody Scrumptious' pieces are made from Jesmonite, a concrete alternative which is free from all the nasties that are in concrete. Jesmonite is infinitely recyclable, meaning it never has to go to landfill. Although this is great in itself, Troody Scrumptious go a step further in planting trees with Ecologi. As a small independent business, Troody Scrumptious like to be approachable to all and the social aspect of being small means they get the chance to treat every one of their customers like family. In the background are weeping willows and greenery. In the corners of the image, there are logos for SmallBiz100 and Small Business Saturday, 7th December.

🌟 Leadership in Action: Making a Difference in Our Communities 🌟 I recently came across a story that exemplifies the power of taking initiative and the importance of community service. Eldridge Ruiters, a dedicated DA Councillor in Aberdeen, South Africa, took it upon himself to repaint the town's faded road markings—a task often overlooked by municipal authorities. Despite facing potential legal repercussions, Eldridge's courageous actions underscore a critical question: should citizens step up when local governments fall short? Eldridge’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that proactive leadership and community engagement can have. His efforts not only addressed a pressing need but also sparked a broader conversation about civic responsibility and the role of local government. I am inspired by leaders like Eldridge, who are willing to get their hands dirty to make a difference. It is stories like these that motivate us to push for accountability and to support initiatives that enhance our communities. Join me in discussing the balance between civic duty and governmental responsibility. What are your thoughts on the role of citizens in local governance? #Leadership #CommunityService #CivicResponsibility #LocalGovernment #Inspiration #Aberdeen

Historic homes can become anything if we use our imagination and push the boundaries of our comfort zone. We custom designed and built this home with the hopes of finding a buyer. When we listed the home just after plaster we knew all our costs to build and frankly the cost was staggering to bring this level of build. We generally believed that if we built something bespoke and without compromise there would be a buyer that would see that and value our asking price and we ended up finding several buyers. We had a lot of feedback from realtors early on that our projected price range was far too high for the market but we argued that exceptional quality in exceptional locations will always command the appropriate premium. I have always believed that all you need to do to be successful in anything is to become an expert on a very very small slice of your industry. We build all over the North Shore for clients but we only buy homes in a few blocks of Newburyport simply because we know the zoning, the pros and cons of each street, which streets seem to have magnetic pull etc. It’s ok to be a generalist but you should also find a subset to become the expert. https://lnkd.in/eFEriNwx
