When conducting package design research, should you target brand buyers as well as category buyers? We’ve found that the only things hyper-targeting like this adds to a research project is 1) cost, and 2) time. But we are driven by data, so we put this idea to the test with an experiment, asking: “How likely is a positive research outcome among category buyers that backfires among current brand buyers?” The results were illuminating.
