🎉 Happy Industrial Design Day! 🎨✨ I began my career as an industrial designer. I absolutely loved the idea of being a pluralist, creating products for various categories that were beautiful, smart, pleasurable, and experiential for everyone using them. As we celebrate Industrial Design Day, I'm filled with gratitude for the incredible journey I've had over the past 25+ years as a designer. From sketching concepts on napkins to seeing products and services come to life in the hands of consumers, it's been an exhilarating ride. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of collaborating with talented teams, pushing boundaries, and transforming ideas into tangible solutions. From consumer electronics to healthcare systems, each project has been a testament to the power of design to enhance functionality, elevate experiences, and inspire emotions. But beyond the final product, what truly drives me is the impact designs have on people's lives. Whether it's simplifying daily tasks, sparking joy through aesthetic appeal, or promoting sustainability, I'm honored to be playing a role in shaping the world around us. As we commemorate this day, I'm reminded of the passion, creativity, and dedication that define our industry. Here's to all the fellow industrial designers who continue to push the envelope, challenge the status quo, and shape the future through design. Together, let's keep innovating, creating, and making a difference. Cheers to Industrial Design Day! #IndustrialDesignDay #DesignInnovation #healthcaredesign #industrialdesign #productdesign

Happy World Industrial Design Day! 🎉 As past president of ACIDO Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario and board member of Association of Canadian Industrial Designers, I invite you to celebrate World Industrial Design Day 2024! In line with World Design Organization's theme, "Let's Get Emotional," let us recognize how designs around us evoke feelings and experiences. As an industrial designer with training in both industrial and graphic design, and working in the field of Experiential Graphic Design (EGD), I've seen firsthand how industrial designers complement and elevate each EGD project. Industrial design brings crucial elements of functionality, accessibility, aesthetics, and innovation to our work, resulting in user-friendly environments. Industrial design allows us to innovate, creating spaces that integrate advanced materials and technology while considering ergonomics and usability. This expertise enables us to incorporate cutting-edge solutions, such as manufacturing techniques, sustainable materials and digital interfaces, enhancing the overall impact and user experience. It drives innovation and sustainability, making spaces more enjoyable, accessible, and emotionally engaging to everyone. #WIDD2024 #WorldIndustrialDesignDay #LetsGetEmotional #IndustrialDesign

Lighting is a key asset to design | Here are some ways I seek to understand each product through the creative process💡 1.Break. It. Down Lighting is beautiful, yet very technical. It’s important to understand each component intimately without getting lost in its aesthetic features. Part of the magic is taking the time to slow down and consider the beauty in functionality. 2. Conceptualize Speaking of slowing down- for me, a great way to do this is by breaking the product down into concepts. Using the specifications to help piece together what makes a great product into a functional one. 3.Visualize Visualization is key. Having a visual story can help someone else envision the product in the space, outside of its marketing material. Drawing it out can be a quick way to determine a design before putting it into production/ rendering. 4.Presentation I studied Retail Design, so part of my background is understanding how to draw attention in creative, simple, and effective ways. I.e. through colors props, mixed media, etc. (All products featured in this video are from B.lux Lighting) Thanks for tuning in! #interiordesign #architecture #designprocess #design #creativeprocess #lighting #lightingdesign #manufacturing #marketing #sales

Product & Furniture Designer | Bold, Outspoken Pieces for Distinctive Brands | Indoor & Outdoor Design | Freelance, Collaborations and Custom Projects
⭐️Designer's Dilemma: Product design in a world overflowing with products? ⭐️ I am educated as a designer -an industrial designer to be precise-, and I believe it’s the most wonderful profession in the world. ✍🏻 I love creating beautiful, distinctive products that make life more joyful, optimistic, and above all: more inspiring! By designing surprising products that take a new perspective on familiar shapes, I aim to inspire people to see all kinds of familiar things in a new perspective—including familiar opinions, behaviour and conventional ways of doing things. ⬅️ Also, I carefully consider how products are made, sustainability and material use. 🌿 ❗️However: I can’t ignore the fact that I am adding more products to an already saturated market. In a world with such an overflow, I sometimes struggle to justify this to myself. 😱🌍 On the other hand, I believe that the function of art (which is how I categorize my type of design) isn't just about utility or practicality. The value of art lies in adding joy, inspiration, consolation even, and a new way of looking at things. It takes you out of your common world, stimulates your own creative thinking. It’s exactly that extra sparkle, that escape from the everyday, the awakening of the senses, and the excitement that comes with that, that makes life beautiful. 💫 Is there enough value in that to justify creating more products? I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this! #DesignDilemma #Sustainability #ArtAndDesign #Inspiration #CreativeThinking #PurposefulDesign

Design rules exist for a reason, to provide structure and guidance in creating aesthetically pleasing and functional designs. However, sometimes innovation lies in breaking those very rules. By challenging traditional layouts, designers can push boundaries and unlock new possibilities. Stepping away from the conventional grid system can create a sense of dynamism and visual interest. Embracing asymmetry can draw attention to key elements, creating a focal point that captures the viewer's imagination. Breaking free from the constraints of a rigid layout can enable designers to experiment with unconventional placements and compositions, resulting in unique and memorable designs. But breaking design rules is not about reckless abandon. It requires a deep understanding of the principles and purpose behind those rules. It's the art of knowing when to bend or break them to achieve a specific goal or evoke a desired emotional response. By doing so, designers can challenge the status quo, disrupt the norm, and ultimately drive innovation in their field. So, the next time you find yourself stuck in a creative rut, consider breaking free from traditional layout conventions. Embrace the power of experimentation, and dare to challenge the established design rules. Who knows, you might just stumble upon a groundbreaking idea that revolutionizes your industry. Share your thoughts: Have you ever broken design rules and discovered a new level of innovation? Let's discuss in the comments below! #designinnovation #breakingdesignrules #creativityunleashed
