What are the key factors for successful smart, intermodal, and sustainable mobility behaviour? 🚗 🌿 In July, we attended the International Entrepreneurs' Night meets Citizen Mobility, an event hosted by Digital Hub Mobility by UnternehmerTUM and in collaboration with the city of Munich, Stadtwerke München GmbH, BMW Group, Autobahn GmbH, Park und Ride Parkplatz GmbH, Designit and lynes and Nudgd. Together, we aim to connect innovative start-ups, experts, and partners to share ideas and foster global start-up networks, and we're transforming travel routines by encouraging and rewarding intermodal mobility habits. Here are our 5 top key mobility insights from the event ↓ 🚌 Alternative mobility services must be available and high quality. New options, like commuter shuttles, have great potential. 🌐 Reliable data for intermodal travel is crucial. Google Maps provides good traffic info, but live public transit data needs to be improved. 🌿 User preferences vary, but lack of time remains the most significant factor, followed by comfort and cost. Sustainability is only a primary driver for some. 💡 Nudging has potential but isn't enough on its own. Timing and context matter, and behaviour change takes time. 💼 Companies play a key role in changing employee mobility, as do cities and transport providers. Together, we learned that successful sustainable mobility requires high-quality alternatives, reliable travel data, and addressing user priorities. Companies, cities, and strategic nudging are key factors in encouraging behaviour change. So, how can companies and cities work together to make sustainable mobility the preferred choice for everyday commuters? 🚲 Learn more about VeloHub, an award-winning project where we turn car-dominated urban spaces into hubs for social interaction: https://lnkd.in/eVbxHXAT #designit #wipro #design #designwhatmatters #sharedprogress #velohub #munich #commute #community #sustainability #velohub Danusch Mahmoudi

New Year, New Moves 🎉 👉 Here are the Top 5 Stories in the Mobility Industry for last month! 🚗 1. Tier and DOTT Partnership 🚀 ➡️ The year started off with a bang, with two major players in the micro-mobility industry, TIER Mobility and Dott announcing a merger 🎉. The two companies will continue operating under their respective brands, and the merger is expected to turn them into Europe’s leading micro-mobility operator 👑. The companies generate €250M combined, and are expected to be profitable amidst unstable market conditions. This move comes shortly after another industry shake-up, with Superpedestrian announcing that they are shutting down their operations. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dMWiq_bA 2. Free Bike Sharing Memberships 🚲 ➡️ To encourage the use of micro-mobility services, 100 free Ovo bike sharing memberships are being given away in the city of Glasgow, Scotland 🏴. These memberships are year-long and are being funded by CoMoUK in partnership with the charity Bikeforgood.it, as a part of the Shared Transport for All project. The aim of the project is to give support to those on low incomes 💰 and help reduce transport poverty in the city. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d-EjWw-F 3. New Regulation in NYC 🏛️ ➡️ Significant changes in micro-mobility are also taking place in New York City 🇺🇸 with the city’s mayor ERIC ADAMS proposing the creation of the Department of Sustainable Delivery. This department will focus on regulating delivery services 📦 that rely on micro-mobility vehicles and will be used to “retake the reins” of the city’s streets. The city’s goal is to create a safer micro-mobility landscape, which can only be done by increasing regulation in the area. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dDQEnwEy 4. Major Road Changes in Amsterdam🚦 ➡️ The City of Amsterdam 🇳🇱 has recently begun implementing a new road safety scheme, drastically reducing the speed on 80% of its roads from 50 to 30 km/h. The project’s managers Jasper Tobias Baardman and Daan Luiten have stated that the project is being developed to enhance traffic safety 🚧. The project has taken months to prepare and launch, and has received support from 70% of the city’s residents so far. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dgbQV2qf 5. Urban Parking Crisis 🚨 ➡️ On the topic of road safety, T&E research in Europe has shown that on average cars are getting 1cm wider every two years 🚙, with around half of new cars being too wide for their designated on-street parking spaces. This issue has been created by increasing SUV sales 📈 and has resulted in less public space being available for pedestrians and cyclists. Discussions are currently underway to impose higher parking fees for SUVs, with Paris 🇫🇷 leading the initiative. Read more: https://lnkd.in/danqed53 What are your thoughts? Ensuring More Equitable and Inclusive Transportation Building Cities That Move for Everyone: 5 Key Areas for Equitable & Inclusive Transportation The pandemic exposed stark inequalities in transportation access. Now, leaders are reimagining systems to be sustainable, equitable, and inclusive. Here are 5 key areas to focus on: 1. Public Transport: National initiatives like Germany's €9 summer train ticket can pave the way for more accessible public transportation networks. 2. Smart & Citizen-Oriented Mobility: Apps and technology should cater to everyone, including children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Prioritize user needs in designing infrastructure and MaaS platforms. 3. Corporate Mobility: Companies can lead the way by offering sustainable alternatives to company cars, like MaaS subscriptions and pay-as-you-go ride-sharing. 4. Mobility of Goods: Electrification, logistics hubs, and cargo bikes are transforming urban logistics, but collaboration is key to minimize last-mile delivery emissions. 5. Governance & Regulation: Cities like Lisbon are pioneering digital monitoring platforms to ensure safe and responsible use of shared mobility options like e-scooters. Investing in equitable and inclusive transportation isn't just good for people, it's good for the planet. Commuting as a sustainable business practice Continuing the subject of sustainability, we’d like to share with you a few commuting hacks we’ve implemented to reduce the environmental impact as a team. 🚲 Committed to sustainability, our CTO Alexander Kochetkov commutes exclusively by bike (and who wouldn’t like extra serotonin at the start of the day?). 🚗 To foster a culture of sustainability, we implemented a corporate car-sharing program by buying a car. Our team shares the vehicle for various travels, including business trips or personal needs. To reduce our CO2 footprint even more, we will transition to an EV this autumn, further enhancing our commitment to sustainable commuting. Luxembourg boasts an excellent public transport system, but there is still room for improvement. While rides are free, many buses still need to be electrified as per the goal of replacing all fossil-fueled buses with electric ones by 2030. By fostering a corporate culture of sustainability, together, startups can make a difference in reducing environmental impact and become a driving force in promoting green practices on the governmental level. #Sustainability #TechStartup #StartupLife #SustainableBusiness

Traffic Nerd & Editor of ITS International | Public transport user by instinct | Highly-skilled pedestrian | Occasional motorist
You know those panels where no one really says anything? Either through fear of saying the wrong thing or because they have a ‘company line’ to promote? This wasn’t one of those 👏🏽🥳🙌🏻 At Autonomy Mobility World Expo in Paris, talking about sustainable transportation, Sampo Hietanen said: “The transport system is more or less being held to ransom by my generation: cities should be built for 20-year olds, and they’re not in love with the car - it’s kind of the last resort.” Judith Häberli of Urban Connect asked: “Why are there so many carrots for the car?!” 🥕 🚙 Why not change incentives towards active travel and public transport instead? Alice Lunardon of BABLE Smart Cities pointed to governance as a major issue, Kirstin Hegner of Digital Hub Mobility by UnternehmerTUM said that ‘mindset’ rather than technology was the key - and Benjamin de Molliens 🌍✊ suggested that banning car advertising might be a good start if we’re serious about making transport work better for everyone. So the panel started big and then got bigger: thanks to all the speakers - it was a very happy hour indeed … Follow ITS International Magazine for more #mobility updates 🚀
