Design Futures Forum is fast becoming a highlight of my year. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to bring fascinating experts together, - people who care about making impacts beyond themselves, - people with the courage to take the untrodden path & dare to try something new, - people with the empathy to see the hurdles others face, to explore the potential for design to transform the future of care. Life is not lived in silos. And the future looks set to be more integrated & complex than ever before. So, as much as my speakers delved into designing for the future of care, this field naturally integrated deeply with the other pillars at Design Futures Forum, as the future of care can’t really be considered with acknowledging the overlaps between care and sustainability (a sick planet results in sick people), and the role of emerging technologies in care (enabling greater personalisation, improved accuracy, and heightened effectiveness of care). We each make choices every day- in both our personal and professional lives that impact others and the world at large. In a time of change, we can dedicate ourselves to the causes we care most about. To me, that has always been people and the planet we call home. As the Global Head of Sustainability & Impact at iF Design, a respected member of the international design community since 1953 and host of the prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD which receives nearly 11,000 applications every year across over 80 categories from 70+ countries - my commitment is to helping optimize design for the betterment of our collective future. In this regard, design is how we think about the front end (i.e. material inputs, reparability & recyclability) and the back end (i.e. educating consumers, building support systems & services) as we create products, packaging, platforms, places and policies. At iF, "our goal is to fully integrate principles of environmental stewardship and social equity into the core evaluation criteria of the iF DESIGN AWARD as part of a multi-year journey to help determine the true social and environmental impact of our participants’ projects, while also creating design success stories that positively influence the market and society at large" (Uwe Cremering, CEO). Design in the world of communications can be mistaken for veneer. We see it and use it differently. The way we see it, we can only design our way out of the systemic, social and environmental mess we're in. Truthful, inclusive storytelling and language (visual as well as verbal) are a vital part of it. Moving and inspiring 'designers' of all kinds, in all kinds of organisation or business, to build honest relationships, make the right connections and come together around deliberate systemic shifts. 🌱 LAUNCH: The Regenerative Design Manifesto 🌍   Today, we are proud to unveil The Regenerative Design Manifesto – a transformative vision for design as a force to heal and regenerate. This manifesto introduces five guiding principles that challenge us to design not just for humans but with nature and ethics at the forefront.   Curated by Henrik Lübker, CEO of Design denmark and Lotte Nystrup Lund, Founder of Futurista.dk, in collaboration, and supported by The Danish Arts Foundation (Statens Kunstfond), this manifesto is the result of a co-creation journey involving contributions from over 100 designers representing diverse design disciplines, and countries.
