UK Department for Energy Security & Net Zero has published the Civil Nuclear Roadmap to 2050 setting out key details on the how the government intends to deliver 24GW of nuclear power by 2050. A key theme is a recognition of the nuclear skills gap, highlighting the need for around 80,000 additional skilled jobs over the next 20 years. Another major theme is the targeted Final Investment Decision for the Sizewell C development which will signal a significant milestone in Nuclear Energy development. Interesting times ahead for UK’s energy security.

Nuclear power seems to have finally escaped the grips of misinformation and has increasingly high levels of public support. But our research shows the majority don't understand what role it plays or why it's important. Around half of respondents didn't know nuclear is already part of our energy mix, and two thirds believe wind and solar to be a more effective way to reduce our dependence on energy imports. History has proved the public is nuclear's most influential stakeholder, so as the UK prepares to 'Power Up Nuclear', should the sector be more proactive about turning support into trust?

✳ The nuclear industry launches the manifesto for the new EU mandate, and #WalterTosto is among the signatories! VP Nuclear & Big Science, Massimiliano Tacconelli, was present along with representatives of the european nuclear industry at the presentation of the manifesto, which invites the new European Commission to recognize nuclear energy as a key solution to the EU's challenges: climate change, affordable and accessible energy, and security of supply. Yves Desbazeille, director general of nucleareurope, underlined the need for the next Commission to treat #nuclearpower on par with other fossil-free technologies, focusing on objectives such as #decarbonisation, competitiveness, and energy sovereignty. The manifesto asks for: ▪ Equal treatment of all zero-impact technologies ▪ Consistent policies to facilitate nuclear deployment ▪ Access to EU #nuclear funding and financing ▪ Inclusion of the nuclear fuel cycle in the taxonomy of #sustainable finance ▪ Support for #innovative nuclear technologies and a skilled nuclear workforce

This initiative is crucial for achieving Europe's climate targets by 2050.
