This a rather intriguing article, as the effort to strike a balance between conservation and sustainable development must be intentional. It is unfortunate how similar stories resound throughout not only the Caribbean, but globally. Here's hoping the attuned and conscientious residents of Lajas, Puerto Rico can ban together alongside partner organisations to effectively address this ever-increasing threat to their slice of paradise. 😐 #biodiversity #conservation #sustainabledevelopment https://lnkd.in/epicmUQg

How The Bahamas gives back to the local community There is an increasing trend of buyers and travelers looking to become more mindful by engaging with the local community. In The Bahamas, an array of tours and activities are on offer which have a positive impact on the environment. A prime example is Bonefish Pond National Park, a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts, the park’s commitment to environmental preservation allows visitors to appreciate the beauty of nature while promoting responsible tourism. The Nature Conservancy also collaborates with the government, partners, and communities to protect the treasured waters and marine life of The Bahamas, which sustain both lives and livelihoods. Buyers and travelers can also support local businesses in The Bahamas, from purchasing handcrafted trinkets to seasonal produce to mobile spas and more. This allows them to not only score souvenirs but to meet new people and have authentic experiences that are representative of the local culture. #localcommunity #sustainability #realestate #luxuryliving #bahamas #sirbahamas #Sothebys

This post by Grant is worth a read and is a useful point of reference when discussing the effect of the Cairngorms National Park. The work of me and my team relates to the first section on population and housing, and one thing I think is worth highlighting is our affordable housing policy which requires a 45% affordable housing in certain locations, 20% above the benchmark set by national guidance. This policy was made possible because of the National Park designation and the duties placed upon it in the National Parks (Scotland) Act 2000. As far as I'm aware, with the exception of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, there are no other Scottish planning authorities with a policy like it. Of course, its delivery is a partnership between the National Park Authority and many others, including and importantly, the local authorities that cover the National Park area. There are many challenges ahead and work is ongoing to achieve its successful implementation in all areas. It's an interesting time to be working as a planner for the Cairngorms National Park Authority, and so I'm going to take this opportunity to advertise the fact there is still time to apply for the job of senior planning officer in the local development plan team, check out the link to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eNrgG4Zk #planning #planningjobs #cairngorms #nationalpark #environment #housing #RTPI #affordablehousing
A lot of opinions have been circulating recently about national parks and what effect they may have on areas that might be considered for future designation in Scotland. I thought a little evidence might be useful for people to make up their own minds, drawing upon 20 years of data from the Cairngorms National Park. Best to judge their effectiveness on facts and evidence rather than hearsay and anecdote. This builds on some of the points I made in my letter to the P&J and Scottish Farmer that were published this weekend - https://lnkd.in/ekPkCU7g #cairngorms #nationalpark #environment #biodiversity #tourism #landmanagement #business Cairngorms National Park Authority
